Looking at a boat with a 2002 F225. Is there anyway that I can see if this engine is having the exhaust corrosion issues or do I need to get a mechanic to look it over? Also what is the price for a mechanic pre-sale cost?
I bought an '06 a few years ago. I paid $300 for him to go through the whole boat. He found a few things like the stern light fixture was toast and speakers were busted. He dropped the lower unit and we looked up in there. There are pics on the web that show the speckled white look. I’m not sure how nto tell the severity of the issue other than how much speckle is there. It really is a depth of speckle that you’re worried about, not neccesarily the number of speckles. They are probably correlated though. For what its worth, I have read that the repair cost has dropped significantly on this problem. It was like 6-8000 when I first read, now I’m hearing there is a <1000 solution. Not sure of the details and of course spending a $1000 on a 2002 motor in repair would be a bummer.
