Yamaha F40 advice needed

Have an 01 F40 that sat over the winter with gas in the carbs. Normally I run the engine out of gas before I store it. I could get the engine to idle and that was it so I took it in for service. Tech calls and says I have sand in my carbs, so I go to shop to look. Doesnt look like sand, was a white/tan substance that was in the carbs suck in all the crevices. Long story short, he soaks them, puts carb kits on all three and now says it will still only idle. He said my only option is 3 new carbs. I am in Greenville and dont have much selection of techs. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Below is picture of one carb. This stuff was stuck all in it.

That isn’t sand, that is dried up **** in your gas that has collected. That mechanic is an idiot, unless you filled up with sand instead of gas one day. I had the same thing. Clean it yourself and put it back together, you are already halfway there.

Here was mine and you can see it was a lot worse.

And FYI, there isn’t any miracle in a can cleaner that will fix it. You will have to go through and clean out every orifice and passage way with compressed air and/or wire. And once you get everything back together and it runs great, you will have the satisfaction of know you fixed it yourself and some extra money in your pocket.

that bottom picture is exactly what it looked like before I took that photo. He soaked them and said that there must be blockage in places he cant get to.

You need to run far away from the tech you took the boat to. Soaking helps cleaning them, but doesn’t do the whole job. In a nutshell, the way to clean them is to take the bowl off, the float assembly, pull the black plug out and unscrew the jet, and the top piece of the carb. Use compressed air and a wire (I use a used guitar string) and run air and the wire through every hole and passage way you can see. Put it all back together and then enjoy.

chris, do you have an ultrasonic cleaner at your shop. If not, do you have any clue who would?

And then use the heck out of Seafoam…best stuff in the world…my boat loves it
