While out one day recently I had to stop and clean some grass out of my prop I tilted my engine up and braced myself against the lower unit, upon doing so I noticed it was quite hot. Hotter than I’ve ever noticed a lower unit being.(having only owned 2 strokes in the past) I went home and flushed the motor and again noticed the lower unit getting very hot. I drained the gear oil and replaced it, no water and it was at the right level. No over heat alarms and the pee stream looks strong to me. I gotta figure the exhaust gas coming out of this 4 stroke is much hotter and its heating the lower unit up. I’m not trying to find trouble but the warranty on this motor expires in a couple months. Anyone else notice this?
The only time I ever noticed my lower unit running hotter than normal, the oil viscosity was beginning to break down. No water or other impurities, just past time to change the gear oil.

if its still under warranty, bring it in and let us look at it.
it shouldn’t be to hot to comfortably lean against while running in the water
