Yamaha F60 corrosion

Posting for a friend of mine…Has any one heard of corrosion problems on Yamaha F60s? Friend has an 2003 F60 that has rusted through from inside the water jacket. Even though many hours (proabbly 2000) on this motor and it is used routinely, seems as if other things would go bad before this. Dealer claims he has never seen this before.

with 2000 hours it wouldnt be a stretch to see the waterjacket eaten out
my guess is, the motor probably wasnt flushed very often, but even if it was, 2000 hours on that motor isnt unreasonable.
I havent seen that on the f60 specifically, but seen it on other yamahas

i think stonoman had a big v6 do that

his was actually the connection between the head and the block

The hole is about 1/8" in diameter near the thermostat. Could it be patched (e.g. welded) or are we talking a new block?

bump

would need to see location and severity

Yamaha says they have never seen this happen. Yamaha says to use JBweld. Dealer thnks they can get to the spot after disassembly and wants to weld. They have access to welder who does a lot of specialty welding for race engines. I suspect neither will last very long if corrosion is from inside out unless you could remove all corrosion first and then build it up with welding. If this doesn’t work and given that Yamaha says they’ve never seen it happen, do you think owner should ask for some consideration from Yamaha or is that being unreasonable?

never hurts to ask, but if it has 2000 hours, I think its lasted about as long could be expected
