Yamaha f70

Anyone have experience with the f70? Or an opinion on how it compares to the f60 in performance and reliability? It costs a bit more than the f60 and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the extra loot or not. It will be going on a flats boat btw.

Thanks in advance.

I always want more than I need, I would buy the 70

Just bought the F60. Dealer told me not much difference from the F70

A friend just got a new CS JVX 20’ w/new Yam 70 4S. Getting 6.5/7 nmpg every time. Sweet motor!

The charleston Community Sailing center uses the f60s on most of their coach boats. These boats are used every single day of the week and go through a rough saltwater life, and from what I know, they have had little to no problems at all. They are probably one of the best boats they have experienced yet.

f70 is a race car motor compared to the f60
absolutely awesome motor
best 70 on the market
if the boat is rated for a 70 and you can handle the extra cost, you wont ever wish you had a 60, but if you get the 60, you may wish you bought a 70

Thanks for all the advice!

Chris, The boat is actually rated for a 90. I don’t want to add any unnecessary weight so I was going to stay in the 60-70 hp range. how does the Yamaha f70 compare to the Suzuki 60?

You will get alittle more drag effect with the f70 since it carries the larger foot compared to the f60. I went with the f70 on my 16’Hightide and could’nt be more pleased. 247lbs on the 60 compared to 260lbs on the 70. With 42hrs on the motor I’m still playing with props, can’t find a 16 pitch that anyones willing to let me “borrow”. Ran a 15 pitch and was hitting the rev limiter at 6300rpms,and the 17 that I’m running is only allowing about 5600rpms and 41mph(two people 12gal 2 batteries trolling motor and 50qtcooler), both props provided an incredible hole shot. Fuel consumption is awesome. Went on a striper fishing trip on the congaree river, hwy 601 to teepack (approx 26miles one way), trolled for two hours and ran back 3/4 throttle and burn’t between 4-5 gallons!!! Both are great motors, but I went with the 70. Hope this helps. If anyones willing to let me try their 16 pitch prop I’ll take you striper fishing on the Congaree. It’s on right now. Caught 15 last sat in 2hrs. Chris you know of any modifications on the new 70, cams, exhaust, etc?

Theres no replacement for displacement. Put the 90 on the boat. If you don’t, you will certainly wish you had.

if its rated for a 90, do yourself a favor and DO NOT put a 60 on it.
I wont even insult the new f70 and compare it to a 60, suzuki or otherwise
