Been doing some reading and want to see if anyone has connected their yamahas up to the garmin network for engine data. I have an 07 F250 and garmin 4208. From what I have read you need a lowrance yamaha interface cable # 120-37.
But am not sure what to do next. Does it just plug straight in to one of the nema inputs in the back of the garmin unit?
Can you splice this cable to make it longer? Where on motor does it plug in?
From the research I have done, motors 06 and above and some 05 models have nema capability. There is a plug in front of powerhead where the command link (nema) connections go.
There’s a big difference between the NMEA 0183 and the NMEA 2000, though (termination-wise). You gotta find out which NMEA standard your engine supports because the Garmin 4200 series plotters support both. It should all be in the engine manual and the Garmin manual, and you can probably find them online.
Gotcha Covered,

Thanks for everyones help. I bought an lowrance interface cable from cabellas for around 45 dollars. It came with a t connection to go into my nema network.
Cable is run hooked to network, and engine data and fuel data are now working from my F250 to my garmin 4208.
Did not have to my the garmin gmi10 or any new yamaha gauges. Very simple process.
Garmin now shows, hours, rpm, oil pressure, trim, engine temp, fuel flow, fuel economy, and gallons per mile. Straight from the engine to the gps.
A very nice feature. If you have a 06 or newer yamaha and a nema capable lowerance or garmin, its a cheap investment with a great return.
