Yamaha or Suzuki?

One of my friends got a brand new flats boat and I told him to put a Yamaha on there but he says he says Suzuki is better. Just wondering what yall think?

half dozen of one, six of the other

What hp? I have 140 jonsuki on my 18 dolphin. Love the motor for the weight and fuel economy but it definitely isn’t a yamaha 150… if I didnt think the added weight would make a difference in my draft for polling I would replace the motor in a sec.

The Suzuki has a better gear ratio depending on the motor, better fuel economy. I think Yamaha is better for corrosion. I would go Yamaha.

If I’m not mistaken I believe the issue with the zukes is finding a place that can and will service/repair them seems like I’ve heard of this being the biggest issue , but I could be wrong. Other than that you really can’t beat the reliability you get with Yamaha.

Think resale

Any outboard is only as good as the service you can receive in any given area!

This and getting parts in a timely fashion. When I have to take my boat to the shop, it is to a shop owned by a couple of brothers I went to high school with. I asked them about Suzukis and was told their parts network is not all that good. They said they’d probably carry/service them but for that fact that explaining to customers that their motor cant be fixed because of a part isn’t what they want to hear. Besides, it’s hard to beat Yamaha.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

I havent had any problems finding service and or parts. I handle most of my service and small repairs myself but if something major came up I would take it to seels in west ashley. Having owned both a yamaha 150 and a suzuki 140 i can say the yamaha is far superior for anti corrosion.

I still run my Suzuki DT 50 in the bay every fall.she’s an old 1984 model however still gets me there and back. Only needed 1tow since 1994 Wien I bought it used.

I’ve had over half dozen Yamahas, 40 - 115 , and never a bad one, but now all I run is Tohatsu.

Then why change from Yammie to Tohatsu??

Yama. I would consult the BT factory and discuss the F70 and the F90. Fished a new HB professional a friend just bought with the 70 Sunday was very impressed with the rig but the light 70 was plenty. No rain in NSB on the lagoon Sunday.
