Rebuilt water pump on 03 90hp 4stroke. Put lower unit in a barrel and fill up with water. Crank engine and no pee stream. Rev engine up and then you get a stream. Is this typical for this motor. I had a 90 evinrude that wouldn’t pump in a barrel but back it down a ramp and everything was fine. I know they are different beasts but just thought it could be.

that motor should pee normally at low rpms in a barrel
you still have something wrong
May sound stupid .but was it working at all prior to the rebuild? Atleast half a dozen times a year mine gets clogged due to bees or something making a home in the pee hole
Thanks Chris,Jsadler it was working at the end of last winter and then sat up. This boat had been run hard and put up wet lol.Prop chewed up bad so we decided to change prop and noticed it didn’t pee right. Pulled lower unit and all that was left of the impeller was center shaft and VERY little rubber. Gonna drop lower unit as soon as I get relief from this back issue and back flush as much as possible. Will check impeller to be sure it is turning in right dirrection. I’m assuming all drive shafts rotate clockwise looking down on them. Must be some small pieces of rubber in there somewhere.
