Yamaha water pump

I replaced the impeller on my 2008 F-150, now I do not get a steady stream of water out of the hole. It seems to be catching a little bit of air from somewhere. I took it apart to reinspect it, everything appears to be good. Any ideas?

How did the old impeller look, was it trashed and missing pieces?

It was in good shape. It had been a while since it had been changed, so I did it for maintenance

So ,you had a good stream just before you took it apart,if yes then maybe something did not get put back together right. If you did not check the stream just prior to disassembly ,then I would check all hoses and t-stats/housing for trash.Check the intake also .One other question, did you use a lot of grease when reassembling?

Are you running the motor in the water or with muffs and a water hose? Those 150,s do not like to run on muffs. If you really need to use muffs, try taping up two holes on the lower unit near the main water pick up holes.

Make sure they gave you the right impeller. The impeller that came in the rebuild kit I ordered online was for the next size up motor (even though it was supposed to be the correct impeller for my HP motor). When it was installed on the drive shaft the impeller would turn normally and everything looked right, but when the water pump housing was put over it, it was such a tight fit that the drive shaft would turn, but the Woodruff key wouldn’t catch and the impeller wouldn’t turn. West Marine had the correct impeller and when I compared the two, it was a very minuscule difference in size between them, but enough to make a difference.
