Yamaha wiring/starter issue

Hey guys,

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help me diagnose a problem that I’ve been having. I have an 02 90hp 2stroke yamaha that I just replaced the trim motor on ( was pretty excited to get it back together and have it work!!). After I got it replaced I went inside for about an hour the went to see if I could troubleshoot my live well, well the negative terminal on the battery melted off, and the wire was just hanging there with the but attached to there post. I replaced the battery and as soon as I put the battery selector switch to “on” the motor turned over. No key in the ignition. So I turned it off, took off the cover to the motor and didn’t notice anything out of place though I’m relatively new to outboard motor maintenance. Anyone know what may be the cause or how I can fix it? I first tried to search around the web but couldn’t find anything related to my problem or just didn’t know where to look, hopefully someone here can help because it sure would be nice to be back on the water! Anyway, hope y’all are having a better weekend than me.
