when i give it the throttle it sorta dies down and doesnt want to respond sometimes particularly from an idle it seems like if i give it throttle progressively it is not as bad. is this the fuel/H2O separator or the fuel filter? where is each located ? what should the H2O separator look like?
I believe I had the same problem last couple of weeks. Mine (2005)was everytime I would tilt the motor up in the trailering position for over thirty minutes, it would crank, but die and acts like it is not getting gas. After dumping filter and repriming, engine would run fine. I don’t think I need to dump filter, but I thought it was water in the gas, but was not.
I had it checked out this week and shop said they could find nothing wrong and the fuel was OK. They said a couple of others (Yammi 115 - 4 stroke) had similiar problem and they believe the value in the primer bulb is sticking. They tied the bulb to hang in a vertical position. I am to pick-up boat this afternoon, so I have not seen it or had a chance to run engine.
Please let me know if you find out anything else

yeah I will let you know, …how do you dump filter? is the fuel/H2O separator the clear bowl on the stern side of the motor
Yes, it is a Fuel/ H2O filter. I keep an oil wrench in the boat so I can dump the filter if necessary. My filter is in a compartment in my boat (Sea Pro 19 Bay). Just make just when you screw it back on the o ring/ gasket is set correctly and you only hand tighten it.

A lot of people have been having trouble with the anti-siphon valves sticking, causing the system to lose its prime. Could be ethanol related.

had a similar problem on a DFI. Sometimes it would run fine, sometimes no power at all.
Tried fuel/water separator, anti-siphon, primer bulb, etc. No help. Ended up having the tank cleaned. Mechanic found “jelly” like substance in tank. It would sometimes get sucked up agains the pickup and cause the engine to loose power…however it was not passing through the screen on the fuel tank pickup…at least not in large enough quantities to clog the other filters.
Thanks ethanol.
Yesterday when I picked-up the boat from the shop, they told me they are seeing a red colored jelly like substance in the gas tanks that they can not get out - said they believe it is ethanol related. Goes along with what FISHOn said!

That ain’t good. Can you get in there to pump/scrape it out or somthing or is this a replace the tank scenario?
I’d have to imagine if the shop couldn’t get it out…

we are seeing that stuff every day
its a nightmare
one thing we have found, the fuel in the clear filter bowl, will look clean, and we have cut open a few filters, and we find the paste coating the filter elements

Chris is this ethanol related? my suzuki is doing the same thing. I have posted on a few other topics similar to this too.

They said they can’t get the tanks out either.
I have rumors of 15% ethanol - Lord help us!

how can i check my fuel tank?
you should be able to pull the fuel sending unit, and inspect from there

Pull the sending unit or inspection cover and use a flexible pipe hooked to a gas pump and “vacum” the bottom of the tank out good. Helps if one can angle the boat on trailor to get everything into one corner of tank. There is allways going to be some fuel/crud in the bottom of the tank that the pickup can’t reach normally, which when left is just going to get mixed with any fresh gas. I made a pump and filter setup to to clean out tanks with. I have sucked thousands of gallons of crud out of tanks so far this year with. On some, depending on how bad the fuel is have been able to just recirculate the fuel thru the pumps filter setup several times once the majority of the crud is out and salvage the majority of the fuel. Once it’s clean and good to go Star tron additive has prevented any reoccuring problems. Gotta love that E-10!!:(![]()
