So Mr Goldfinch. Which way are you going to vote on the Confederate flag issue. I bet there are a lot of people on this site that have supported you and would really like to know.
Sorry,
haven’t been on the site in a while. Just saw your post/question. After voting for almost every amendment (new flags, new monuments, etc…) I voted to take it down. There really was no choice. I don’t suppose any of us wanted the remainder of the confederate memorials around the state jackhammered when the Heritage Act was deemed unconstitutional. It was the right thing to do. I respect the flag and certainly don’t see it as hateful. I had ancestors who fought under the confederate banners. Two are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Georgetown. But continuing to fly that flag in front of the Statehouse was asking for trouble that none of us needed. I voted to retire it honorably to the Confederate Relic Room. Most of you would certainly do the same if you knew some of the things that were coming if it were not removed.
And thanks for your support.

I appreciate the response and your candor. My apologies for the “trolling” nature of the original post. I am a Murrells Inlet Native and also had family that fought in the Civil war…for both sides. I agree with you that the flag is better off in a museum but hate to see it happen under these circumstances. In my opinion, it only serves to validate the claims that the flag stands for racism or hatred. This may have postponed but definitely has not stopped the attacks on our states heritage. I only pray that the men we elect to represent us have the fortitude to stand up when enough is enough.
Stephen…you need to run for US House.
