I am looking into the possibilities of escaping down to Bahamas to chase bonefish and permit on the fly in mid June for a fathers day trip with dad. I began sorting through the many lodges and rates that are offered by yellow dog but would love to hear recommendations / experiences from anyone who has headed that way in the past.
I’ve fished just a day charter out of Freeport once before and had great success with the bonefish. Hoping to choose the right price/location that will make for a memorable outing. Looking for low-frills, cold beer, fish camp setup…not the ritz.
I’ve fished all over the Bahamas, from Grand Bahama in then north to Long Island on the southern end. A lot of where you go will be determined about how much travel you want to do and whether you want to fly charter or go commercial.
A few places I’d recommend that are easier on the wallet than other:
Greenwich Creek Lodge in Deadman’s Key, Long Island http://www.greenwichcreeklodge.com/about.html
Been there a few times. Awesome place and location, Great people.
Two Boys Inn on Andros: http://www.twoboysinn.com
These guides tend to want to fish out of the boat more than wading but will do whatever you want.
http://www.knollslanding.com
Knolls Landing is a great location on the northern tip of Andros. Diane rents out one of the houses, Rodney Miller does the guiding, you bring your own food/drink. Glen Pratt is a private charter plane capt who can get you over there from Nassau for a decent price.
Most of these places can be booked directly, which means they don’t have to then pay a commission to the outfitter. Let’s them keep more of the money which is much needed in those parts.
Let me know what questions you have or if you want to hear more about my experiences in these places.

**** Yellow Dog. It’s a low grade, middle man operation. The third suggestion of BC will yield you the benefits, mind.
