Went down to Costa Rica last week and did some fishing in what they call the “low” season. We caught 9 yellowfin tuna all in the 15 pound range, 7 bonita, 2 red snapper, and one large dolphin. We didn’t have a scale to weigh the dolphin but i would guess between 50 and 60 pounds (The captain said 70-80 lbs. I can’t imagine one getting much bigger than the one we caught. I am 6’4" and that thing is almost as long as i am! Any of you internet fishing experts want to put your two cents in on what you think the dolphin weighed? All in all, not too bad for a day of “low” season fishing.
I wont swear to it but I think your red snapper is actually a cubera snapper. The anal fin on a red is triangular that one is round and the body isn’t “deep” enough. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
I would say they are very similar in size those two dolphins…The dorsal fin comparison is correct. they’re width looks fairley similar if you don’t compare the fin.

Florida Boy, you have lost your head. Look at the tail. The big ones over 50 seem to have a lot more girth down to the tail and the tail itself is wider than the head and seems to get more rigid. The first one tapers down too much to be over 50. With a 50lb fish, you won't be able to get your hand all the way around where the body meets the tail.

Valid point my friend. I guess if that dolphin is 60 and the tuna are 15 then 40 is about right. Those tuna are 7-10 at best. They look to barely be legal snapper size.

Valid point there florida boy, girth is probably a topic that you know nothing of, stick to “thinking of fishing” and by the way https://www.seatow.com/membership/join-now
Did you take the meat to the el pelicano right on the beach? I am assuming that you went out of there as the cheapest boat i could find inside the marina was a 32 albermarle and 36 luhrs.
I also dove the rocks on each point of herradura bay and they were loaded with fish even saw a school of humpback whales swim by… Mindblowing
