Who has gone to the Outer Banks to chase Yellowfin? Any details as far as guides, hotels/lodging, time of year? We went to Venice and had a blast but looking to go to NC to keep it a little closer to home. Has anyone trailered up and done it out of Morehead (is that possible or still to far out?) Don’t want to really go in May but if that is the time to go then so be it.
Charter one of the boats in Oregon Inlet. They hate private boats riding their hiney, but they share info with each other. They do it daily and therefore they know what is going on constantly in their local waters. They are the best at their daily job and can put fish in the boat consistently. I would love to give it a whirl on my own boat, but for the total time, money, etc…I will be chartering. When we are up there on vacation for a week, we do not charter and do the offshore thing ourselves.
We have a charter booked in May out of OI.
The YFT haven’t been thick off MHC for a couple of years.
Charter will be your best/safest route to go for a first trip.
The inlets get pretty nasty depending on wind/tide.
Sounds good guys. I may just try to talk everyone into going back to Venice in Oct. timeframe. Thanks for the input.
The Past few years the month of May through second week in June has been the best fishing. I went duck hunting with the guys from the Doghouse this winter had a blast and we are going back to fish yellowfins with them in May. He has a bunk house to stay in that is cheaper then a hotel will set you back
