Yellowfin tuna! Other side 9-Apr (Pics!)

Filled the Freeman 42LR slam full of fuel, food, beverages, and all the essentials for an overnighter. Good reports from the Florida boys fishing the other side of the stream. They have to pass by us at some point right?! Plan was to run to the other side before sunset and try and find some birds before night fall. They 8 of us (6 guys and two of the toughest kids around) plopped down for the 140 mile ride straight out. Other side or bust!

Made it before sunset. Passed some nice weedlines on the way but nothing that looked exceptionally fishy so we kept the course.

The flow on the east side was southerly and the seas were calm. Set out the spread, whipped up some dinner in the Bug Catcher Ed oven and settled in for the night.

Boys settled into the hammock and off to bed!

Beautiful moon rise and with a full belly I settled down into the ole e-sea-rider bean bag and was off to sleep. Grassman had the first watch.

As I was dreaming of sushi rolls and dancing girls I heard grassman yell, “Got HIM ON!!” and the 50W screamed to life! ZZZZ! Not a super long ZZZZZ but a Z not the less. Jumped to my feet and it was dark! Like the bottom of Phin’s pocket looking for gas money dark! What did we have? Few mins later and Ole Swillie sinks the Marsh tacky into a nice dolphin. 12:30am and the skunk was out of the box!

Few mins later it was time for my watch. Stared at the flir and radar, passed a long line boat, watched the moon come and go behind the clouds, took grass off the long rigger, untangled it from the short rigger. Then handed her over to Bully. Next thing you know the sun is starting to creep over the horizon. Time to set the trap and find some birds! Wasn’t long before we found the first group.

Working an area hard

Well there goes the neighborhood…

Wait, did you get a ride on a different freeman?! Super jelly. Nice catch! How far from Charleston? 100 miles?

East side was at least 133 nm yesterday!!! That’s a haul!!!

Catch’em up!!!

How deep is the water 133 miles out?

How many?

What’s a man gotta do to get on one of these epic Freeman fishing trips? My 23’ Kencraft could only do 35mph otw back in from the Royal Terrace in that 3’ white-cap without breaking our teeth. Bet the Freeman was doing 60+

You have the kencraft in Bluffton?

Think I talked to you at palmetto storage one day about it.

Congrats on the catch to the OP!

That’s me. We just recently moved to the Charleston area. First trip out of Charleston on my boat. Lots of trips in my dads boat out of Charleston, but felt good to be the captain this time. Were you the guy selling the bay boat, I think a Key West? If so, nice upgrade to the Pioneer!
