Great Fish!!!

Very cool.

Kewl story. Big YT Tuna at 40ft [:0] Might be worthwhile to look into the evolution of spectra/backbraid or spectra/knots. Eliminates the failure point and decreases the chance of wasted life. Never had a loss on DT/YF Tuna due to line failure since I switched. $0.02

freaking SWEEET tuna. thats pretty awesome.

My biggest worry is that my wife (when I’m dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

Unbelievable! Congrats on an awesome trip and catch!

I landed the bigger tuna with dynema shooting line. I was using the factory rigged crimped mono spare shaft while the mate was digging my dynema rigged shaft out of a tuna.

Rob; What did that thing weigh:question:

Didn’t have a scale that could weigh it.

Good job, Rob!

Time to update your avatar, no?

A long long slow walk in the spartina gives you time to think big thoughts and put your mind back into order.

And video. wait till we get that video finished. I can’t watch it without getting a rush of adrenaline.

Easy, We didn’t have a scale big enough to weigh it and honestly i haven’t been around enough tuna that size to intelligently estimate it. The number doesn’t really matter. It is a trophy i’ll never forget.

Rob; What did you do with that slob, feed the whole town or resort you were staying at? Or, are you eating sushi for the next 5 years:smiley:

Only bought back 50 pounds to avoid the overweight baggage fees. Froze it in zip locks then put those inside a cooler bag then a hard cooler. Still frozen when i got home. All the rest of our fish we gave away to the very happy locals. We ate a lot of it while there also. It was a 70 mile run each way to the fish so we had time for sashimi and panama beer on the way home.

As soon as i got my first tuna to the surface i cut a piece off and had some sushi right there in the water while the fish was still kicking. That’s got to be a record for freshest sushi ever eaten.

Another pic of the big one
