Yellowfins inshore of the 226 Hole

I heard that the old saying was…

“Catching tuna off oil rigs in the gulf, is like catching sharks and redfish at the grillage”

Naah…the big fish don’t come off oil rigs. Just the little schoolies like this:

And the fish in the Gulf migrate almost daily. You may catch them on Wednesday 60 miles away from where you caught them on Tuesady. That’s why the most successful Tuna charter boats in the Gulf are outboard powered center consoles. Gotta go fish for the fish.

By the way…I’ll be giving a seminar tonight at the SCSSA Oyster roast if anybody wants to know the migratory patterns of Tuna, Elk, Emu, and crazy hott redneck a$$.

Kinda looks like I started a pissing match on who knows more about tuna. I was just giving out some good info to get you guys hooked up for the start of the so called “Season”. Gonna be a pretty day soon and let your reels do the talking fellas. Go catch em up.

Capt John, Greg and I don't know anything about tuna. We just wanted to debate in public. We actually fish together.

those last pictures of craig were before he put all the weight on. i think he makes some good points and i like his logic.

remember last year whe schools called the mako trip? everyone laughed at him and he went and did exactly what he said he would do.

Good debate guys! Looks like Wednesday might pan out? Let’s make a run!

I don’t “know” anything about tuna. I was just discussing some thouhts I have on them based on stuff I’ve read and seen in other parts of the country.

The winter fishery off Louisiana was discovered completely by accident by bandit boats fishing for Red Snapper. They kept having to cut off their gear because of all the unwanted Yellowfin by-catch that they had no buyers for.

Remember back in the 80’s and early 90’s when yellowfin were considerded low grade cat food? Oh, how the times have changed.

Nice yellowfin there

no tuna today, but the wahoo were there

We went yesterday on the Summer Session and didnt catch any tuna except for the few skipjacks and a 50 pound wahoo. saw the USS Enterprise and all that follows it. Got rough in the afternoon but a nice morning. water temp around 226 hole was in the low 70s.

Southwest winds light and variable, my @$$…

Summer session,

we saw you out there we had 3 cuts offs and only boated 2 26-30lb wahoo…

did see some big commotion once but never saw what it was…

yeah the forecast was wrong but thats the difference between the ones who want to catch fish and the ones who do …

you gotta take the good with the bad inorder to get good at this.

Dang guys, hate to hear you couldn’t find the tunas. Did you try any cooler water or did you stay in the 70 plus degree water?

i hope after sunday i can come on here and say" what a difference a year makes"

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up and loudly proclaiming, “WOW! What a ride!”
