I have heard that a section on the cooper near the weapons station has a creek that runs parallel to the river called yellow house, I think. Is this the place they were referring to? I talked to a couple of Master At Arms, Navy MP’s, and they said that you could fish that area and stop the boat and all but not on the river between a channel marker, 68 I think, and the 526 bridge. Is this parallel creek yellow house and how is the kayak fishin back there? I am getting closer to my Yak and can’t wait to get my grubbly little paws on it and get fishin. Thanks guys and I hope to see you on the yak soon.
Ken
Yes that sounds like Yellow house creek. If you put in at bushy park and take river to the right go around the bend and when you see the subs go to the left and you will be in yellow house. It wraps around and comes back into the cooper futher down. I’ve never fished it from a Yak but it is very productive for spot tail and flounder.
Thanks Buddy. I have heard the same thing. I was looking at it on Google maps, using the hybrid so you can see the sat images and it looks pretty wide and there seems to be a lot of feeders off of it so as soon as I get my Yak, hopefully Friday
I’ll be there this weekend scouting it out. If I get out I’ll let ya’s know what I found. Are there any other places close to bushy that you can yak and find fish? I read an article that the flunder are showiing up already… I am drooling over the tought of some baked flounder
I haven’t gotten a yak yet but I had a 17 ft cc I fished the area with and always had good luck. I’m overseas til June if I had my GPS with me I could give you some good spots but I didn’t bring it. At the mouths of any of the feeders is usualy good or shell rakes. Also I’ve had realy good luck on incoming tides where theres a channel of water running between two patches of grass.
Where are you overseas? Im a Combat Camera Photog at Charleston AFB, 1 CTCTS… sounds like we may have more in common than yaks!
If you’re in the sand box stay safe! I was there last summer folloing the 4th ID… tons of fun… Not…
Yeah I’m in the sand can’t get anymore detailed than that on this system. I did 3 1/2 years at Charleston active duty 437 AMXS, and I’m still in the reserves there. Currently over here with Civil Service. We’ll have to get together and do some fishing when I get back. I’m getting a yak first thing. Narrowed it down to a choice of two either the Native 14.5 or the Hobie outfitter just don’t know what would be better.
You got it Bro. Let me know when you are back and we’ll set it up. I was down at Time out talking to Dolphin D and he was showing me the Tarpon 120, Nice yak but the Natives they had there look AWESOME. When you get back give him a hoot and he’ll hook ya up. Stay safe over there bro. Gimme a hoot when you get back. Looking forward to fishin with ya.
I got back from the seas around the sand box last march, keep your head down. I have an ultimate 14.5 let me know if you have questions. Looks like you could turn left at the river and enter yellow house from a feeder creek that may be good too. might be useful if boat trafic is heavy. I have heard reports of massive catfish right at the bend infront of the park. anyone else heard anything like that?
Thats why they call it fishing, not catching
I’ve caught some 5-10 #'s at some of the creek mouths when using a mud minnow and a 3/4 ounce weight. Found if you free swin a mud minnow wih just a 3/0 circle hook don’t usualy have trouble with a cat finding it before a spot tail of course if you want to find the cats put back on the weight and take it to the bottom.
How do you like the ultimate 14.5? Is it good and stable and easy to manuever? Also would it be a good first yak or do you think something else would be better? I realy want a tandem so I can get the wife involved, but I liked how the Ultimate 14.5 could be used solo or tandem.
Its very stable, the maneuveraility is average but it has a LOT of hull slap in even a moderate chop. the down side is that due to the design you really can’t put a rudder on it. The seats are the best and most comfortable on the market and may help get the wife involved by keeping ya’lls butts dry. I would however be more inclined to recommend that you wait a little and check out the magic native is putting out. I don’t think that its going to be as stable as far as being able to stand and poll around but it looks like it will make up for the maneuverability and hull slap plus it has a rudder option.

Cool thanks for the info, I’ll have to look into the magic also.
