Yet another bait question - Clarks Hill

Was going to try out Clarks Hill for the first time weekend and I cant seem to find/google any bait stores on the north end of the lake. Do you all know of any that sell herring/shiners/gizzards near the McCormick or even Greenwood areas? Id rather not head to the south end of the lake if I can help it.

Thanks,

Palmetto Angler in McCormick…make sure you get PLENTY of cash. Baits as high as giraffe…you know what

Just a heads up, This weekend may be crowded up top. And the people fishing wont be courteous to share the water with other boats… fishing for almost $9k for 1st place this Saturday.

Palmetto angler in Mccormick will have bait. Go straight down 378 they are about 200yrds past the hardees in Mccormick. And as loon said bring some $$. Think herring is 8$ a dz trout is 3$ each and gizzards (if they have them) are 2.50ea and are what i sell for 6$ a dz…lol…

Good luck.

or if you do still go mr metcalf on bobby brown state park rd sells blue backs for 5 a dz self serve–and ive heard there is another shop before you get to his but not familiar with what they have or prices --but seriously might be a bad weekend to be on the hill if you arent fishing the tourney–let them fellows have the lake for a little while–be a good saturday to fish murray

Thanks for the info guys. Im debating what to do with this tourney going on. I havent had much luck on Hartwell the past couple times ive gone but Murray is an option. Looks like 25 boats are fishing CH which doesnt seem too bad and it is going to be good weather so Im sure everyone will be at it this weekend regardless of location. Ill probably just make a gametime decision.

Anyone tried Hartwell lately with success? I usually fish the coneross but didnt do much there last month.

get some really big baits and go to russell - was there not too long ago and it was deserted as usual!! theres some bigguns in that water–just kinda tough to get em out when you do hook into one

PoBoy, you fishing that tournament or something?

Thinking about going sunday too if there are any left.

Think poboy is trying to help you out is all. You said your wanting to fish the upper lake. If only 10 of the 25 boats are at or above the fish bowl its crowded. Imagine 10 boats all pulling 8-10boards plus freelines. Then add in the weekend anglers. Then add in the fact as i said before these tx boats will not share the water easily. Most play defense just as much as they play offense. Especially if they are on fish.

Now if you want to venture down lake to mid lake crk or lower lake your odds may be better. But i guarantee soap/murray/wells/keg will all have boats in them along with most of the GA little river. AND hope there is something other than small herring left in the shop…

I know he is and I think your right in that the boat position battle will take the fun out it. I think yall have convinced me. Maybe next weekend or Sunday.

Since Ive never been to Russell, any bait around Abbeville?

Russell is the worst to get bait at. Either have to get it from anderson or Mccormick. Others may know of local spots but if i am going to russell thats where i get bait. I go through Mccormick on my way to russell anyway.

texas --murraymaker nailed it --im not fishing the tourney but i do fish clarks hill primarily–it will be very crowded and dont expect anybody to be very courteous with that kind of money on the line–it is what it is --personally i dont care when or where anybody fishes-just didnt want you to have a bad experience thats all-- dont know how you feel about artificials but russell is a good lake to throw artificials under the birds --especially early morning and later in the day

I appreciate the advice. I think I’m between Murray and Russell right now and will probably do a combo of live and artificals. Ill post up a report regardless. Thanks guys.

I’ve wanted to try Clarks hill for some time and always wondered where to launch, get bait, and when would be the best time to give it a try. Fished Murray for many years but want to branch out. Also - Where can one find out (as Murraymaker and others) what is happening on Clarks hill. I keep looking for info, but have not had the success I have when looking for info on Murray. Thanks for any help or pointers.

There are numerous places to get bait, Herring Hut, Palmetto Angler, even a few out towards Raysville, just according to where you want to fish there will be loads of boats up there I fished in Raysville Wednesday and had about 4 boats in the creek I was pulling, not too much info on where they are biting at the Hill I have a few buddies and we share info but I didn’t catch but two Wednesday and it was a beautiful day. If you just want to relax and fish I’d try Russell, and there’s some big fish there just gotta pull them out of the trees, stop in mcormick at the angler and get bait they can usually tell you where the fish are biting, I like Russell should have went Wednesday there’s the chance to pull some big one’s there, I’ll be up there my next day off.
