Yeti

Bought a yeti 35 tundra off a friend for $150 brand new. Highly disappointed with it. Did not keep ice one full day in the boat using ice that had been in my freezer a month. Had to re-ice three days in a row. I kept the cooler inside my house the night before to keep it a cool 72 degrees before I iced up. I did have it in the sun all day, but hey it’s a yeti right? I do like the non-slip grip on the bottom for the boat and it doubles as a seat or you can stand on it. Way to heavy, way to expensive and not near enough storage capacity. They need wheels on 'em. On the bright side if I get attacked by a bear in the boat my drinks are supposedly safe. I also will fit in at any frat party. #statussymbol

Just put the (**() sticker on your truck…chicks dig nice coolers

I had one because it was given to me, then someone else wanted it more and removed it from my truck, and I went to Wally world and bought a Coleman.

If your opening regular both work as well. If you keep em both closed the Yeti would make it a day longer. It’s a status thing cause new ice just doesn’t cost that much to justify the money of one. Love it when you see a Yeti sticker on a truck and the cooler is not in the back bed. Kind of like the Salt life stickers on trucks that the owners don’t even fish. I was actually going to replace my ancient CF.com sticker for one but now I just can’t do it.

My wife bought me a 45 for Father’s Day last year. It was a real surprise and I really appreciated it but, I never would have spent that much for a cooler. It is rugged as heck but, I am still not convinced that it keeps ice any longer than my Coleman Marine Extreme.

Great cooler as long as you do not put anything in it or you can hire porters to carry it.

I was also gifted a 45 Yeti last summer. It’s a good cooler, but I would never spend $300 for it. It’s not that good, and it’s WAY too heavy.

My thoughts exactly. It does make a good seat or standing platform. It does keep ice slightly longer than others, but I wouldn’t buy one for myself.

I’ll buy it from you. Let me know and I’ll gladly meet up and pay you $150 for it.

I will never own one. Waste of $$ and I’m already cool. :sunglasses::stuck_out_tongue:

Only reason why I want one is because I have an odd size leaning post that will fit this size perfectly. All the coleman and igloo 35 qt plus coolers don’t fit.

Plus I need a standing platform for the bow.

I’d sell mine if it wouldn’t hurt my wife’s feelings.

You are cool Dave!

I read somewhere on another forum that they only work well if they are “seasoned”. Apparently this means that the cooler must be placed in a freezer prior to being used. Of course the question asked afterward was who the heck has a freezer big enough to freeze a Yeti cooler, or any other cooler for that matter.

In fairness of the yeti, we took one on a trip to WV this summer and it rode all the way up there in the trailer with the other 3 coolers and when we arrived it still had plenty of ice while the other coolers has melted. Worth the money? Lord no. Better than the other coolers? without a doubt.

I have a Yeti and sure hate the weight of it but keeps ice well and definitely durable.

I believe the reason your others did not hold ice long while trailering was due to the wind. The Yeti has a great seal and won’t let that highway speed breeze in. Go ahead and put ice in a warm Yeti and shortly after you can’t open the lid…unless you crack the drain valve to break the vacuum.

It holds ice about as well as any other cooler on the market…If you buy one for that reason you’re a fool. I will say it will OUTLAST any coleman or igloo cooler you buy. They are rugged as hell and will be here long after a coleman will be.

On a side note…you can’t stand on a coleman or igloo day after day and NOT have the top caving in.

Bunch of hating cheap bastards.

If you read the instructions (like any body ever does that) you will see that in order to get anywhere near the claims they make on ice retention, you have to chill your contents down to near freezing, then drain off water and top off with ice. Once you do this, you have to keep the lid closed. The Yeti cooler is designed for ice storage on long trips aand not intended to be used as a beer cooler. Constantly opening the lid will greatly reduce ice retention abilities… With that being said, yes, they are durable, but I can buy igloo/coleman coolers and replace then when they are done any buy many more over and over again without spending near as much as I would for one Yeti… I am partial to Igloo coolers, just wish they would redesign their hinges and latched for durability or at least mail out a free set when they break… I have to replace the latched on my 160 qt Igloo at least once a year…

My current big Igloo with a pad on the top came with a boat I purchased in 1998… and it was a few years old then. 12+ seasons of fishing, weekend trips and waterfestivals on the Chesapeake, 2+ years of the same here - the handle is finally starting to break.

My red Coleman “1 case” coolers are going on 13 years old and look brand new. Used just about every weekend.

Haters?? No…

I"m willing to bet if you “freeze” any cooler before/during/after filling it with ice undoubtedly the ice will last longer
