OMG! Really??? Would somebody REALLY go that far for tuner? Wouldn’t be cheaper to tow your boat to NC and go the few mile it takes from their shore? Count me OUT!!! Nobody in Charleston other than Carnival has a big enough boat for that! Well, I’ll take the battleship.

Got some “undercover” info from some Longline Boats on the OBX. YFTs on the East Side of the Stream again this year. Seems good numbers are being caught. Hopefully they will show this Spring to the West or Im gonna be making a MutiDay overnight to the East for my TUNER FIX.
Ace let me know when you’re ready. Sitting on go!
If something doesnt change this Spring, I will make that trip. I figured two to three days of light and slight, my fuel bladder on the bow. A case of Ballyhoo, two loaves of bread, two jars of peanut butter 8 snickers and a Bag of cheetos, case of gatorade would do it. Two bean bags! With your JET ROCKET, I figured a 3-4 hour trip would be about right after Thomas Hilton tells me where to go. Who needs a 65 footer?
Three years ago we had a few trips that caught more than one. Screw going that far. Well fish normally and hope for the best. I may pull my Scout to the OBX for memorial day though.

155 miles is not that far for bigger boats. We can cover 300 plus miles in our 30’ + center console. But for a 61’ sport fish that’s an easy trip. We used to leave Charleston Harbor (61’ Viking) and set the waypoint for Palm Beach. Would do it as a straight shot all the time. Also Key West to Cancun Mexico. They are making that trip in big See Vee’s CC now. Obviously you need to be smart about it.

Ace
You forgot one thing.
JBH
I didnt forget it…knew the first ice aboard would go for that!
155 miles x’s 3$ a gallon equals…$465
1 mpg for most boats doing this round trip = $930
ice=$80
bait=$50
beer=$60
grand total=$1120
hmmmmmmmm.
gas to OBX+charter=$1200
airline ticket+charter to Cabo=$1100
piggly wiggly 12 pack spicy tuna rolls=priceless
fetch.
Very true. No part of recreational fishing (or commercial these days) makes much cents:smiley: It’s about the hunt and the reward of finding and catching your own fish. Hell, for what we have spent on the boat alone I probably could eat sushi grade tuna every night for the rest of my life.But there’s something about the thrill of the hunt that makes us enjoy spending all that money to try and catch a fish.
Everybody but the stinking Japs agree something needs to be done about this. We need world wide sanctions against them. The Blue fin aint the Do-do bird. It’s worth saving.
