wilcox. were you on the boat? man you get around.

Yep. I was on the west coast this past weekend. I have a buddy out there who comes and joins me in the Keys for a couple of weeks every Jan/Feb. That’s my buddy holding up that squid. I’ve been going out there a couple of times a month for the past few months, and he’s been asking me to go fishing with him on this boat. He goes every Saturday.

A lot of guys have a lot of different vices. I don’t do a whole lot, but I do like to fish…and I like to fish different places. I’ve fished from Alaska down the west coast to Costa Rica, Canada, fresh water all across the U.S., the Gulf Coast quite a bit, several lakes in Mexico, New York to Key West, Bone fished the Bahamas, and the Amazon. As much as I’ve been, I’m still learning. I don’t consider myself an authority on anything. I can learn from just about everybody, and I do.

And that is the TRUTH!! Everytime I call hwilcox he is somewhere different. California yesterday then heading to Fla soon. I want to be like that when I grow up! You will not find a better guy to fish with. He knows alot about fishing but with that many trips under your belt it is hard not to. I want to go on a West coast trip sometime I hear the tuna are awsome over there!

Salty,

The grass is always greener. My kids are grown, I’m single, I’m self-employed, and I’m debt free. While being single has some definite advantages, sometimes I think how lucky you married guys are to have a nice, loving wife waiting to clean and cook your fish when you come home from a hard day of fishing and plop down on the sofa with the remote. Since I don’t have a wife, I usually give away my fish…then come home and plop down on the sofa.

I caught one on a butterfly jig this past winter at the comanche. Not nearly as big, maybe about 8 lbs, probably not a humbolt either but definitely a squid, or a small octopus. I was holding it out over the water by the leader for the pic but he popped off before I could get the pic. I was glad at the time because I had no idea how to de hook that thing.

looks like alot of fun

self employment does have it’s advantages. sounds like your doing what you love to do and seeing the world at the same time. too bad you don’t surf w/ all the places you have been, or do you? keep up the good work and keep us posted:sunglasses:

I’ve tried surfing, but I’m not very good at that. You are exactly right…I’m doing what I love to do…travel, fish, see the world…living my childhood dreams. I was in California last weekend. I’m in Florida all this week. A week from today, I’m flying to Oregon to spend a week on the coast there. I’ll be in Las Vegas the first week in August, and I’m working on a trip to Alaska for the third week in August. Somebody has to support the economy in these different places. I’m just trying to do my part. LOL

Seriously, I have been richly blessed. I spend a whole lot more time thanking the good Lord for my blessings than I do asking for more.
