You ever caught one of these?

Does anyone even recognize what this is?

Soon, I’ll post a few more pix of these things in the boat.

You broke the code! Congrats! I’ll post some more photos in my first posting. They caught 250 of these things on jigs. They would come to the surface chasing jigs, as seen in the first photo.

I never knew that squid would chase a jig! Very Nice!

“Just cuz I’m a girl, don’t mean I can’t fish!”

Humbolt…

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but…why? And do they fight? And I agree with seafix…that boat’s gotta smell like a jar full of smashed a$$holes.

don’t jump in the water w/ those bastards. they will chew your face off. saw a show on the humboldt squid in the sea of cortez. diver dude was wearing a mesh suit to keep them from tearing golf ball sized holes in his body. when these things go into a feeding frenzy pray you are not in the h20 w/ them.

I don’t take your questions as being smart a$$. As for why, there were a number of people on the boat that really like to eat them…mostly Asians. They weighed 25-35 lbs each, and they put up a heck of a fight. As for the smell, the biggest problem was the mess they made…ink all over the boat.

Also, these squid have a beak that can take off a finger if you’re not careful.

Humbolt squid can be quite tasty. Some are full of ammonia and downright nasty…
Nothing wrong with a little calamari.
They can be aggressive if worked up into a feeding frenzy, but are mostly curious and non-threatening in their natural environment.
They have had some good shows about them on the Discovery Channel.

“Never argue with an idiot…he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”

Can you catch any squid here in SC and how do you do it if you can? I also like calamari and would love to be able to catch my own.

i would love to fish for them for a day or two ,laugh my a$$ off, drink some beer and then sell them to the locals to get my money back.:smiley:

Amazing! Can’t believe the boat caught so many.

Hey seafix, to bad we couldn’t go out today (thursday) wish it wasn’t so ruff. Look forward to rescheduling and having a blast.

wilcox. were you on the boat? man you get around.

The only reason I would even consider keeping them, would be for fishing bait.
