I would like to know what some of you fellas use for inshore rod and reel combos. I mean that if you had one set up that was your go to one. I use a Abu Garcia Classic C3 Baitcaster spooled with either 14lb mono or 80lb SpiderWire Stealth braid. My rod is a 7ft Berkley MH Lightning rod. Its not fancy or pricy but it gets the job done. The reel is pretty scraped up but those are just scars from numerous battles. I have some other baitcasting and spinning combos but this is the old bulldog of the group. So I guess its my favorite one. It can be for whatever inshore species.
What I’ve been using most for fishing around the jetty:
7’ St. Croix Tidemaster 8-17# line and a Shimano Saragosa 4000 spooled with 30 PP. Casts like a dream, light enough for the smaller stuff, and has enough guts to drop the hammer on bigger fish.

It’s hard to beat the ABU round reels for versatility, freshwater largemouth or striper, and just about anything inshore. I have a couple and love them, but tend to use spinning reels more in the salt.

This aint seaworld this
is as real as it gets

Old penn spinfisher 4500 and my walmart rod.
I have the same combo as LiteTackleChamp. Once spool 10 lb mono and the other 12lb braid. I took it Spade fishing the other week and that will be the last time. It was fun but way to much for that rod. Its best for Trouties!!
7’ 9" Greenwater with stradic 2500 with 10lb powerpro and 7’ 7" Loomis Bronzeback with same reel and line.

MIC, thats not to light for that rod, it makes it a blast! ive caught everything from 24lb little tunny to 32inch redfish on that combo, will handle anything!

I just saw a pregnant woman with a cigarette and a beer walking into the Larry the Cable Guy show. I’m glad my taxes are paying her medical expenses.

It is. I’ve always enjoyed light tackle, no fun horsing a fish in. The largest fish I’ve caught with it would be a 32" shark at the jetties. Good ten minutes. Here is the pic from the last Spade I caught. I’m looking to get a Green Water with a Stradic 4000.

I agree with going light. I’ve had fun this summer with trout-reds-flounder on a 6’ IMX with a Stella 1000 and 8# test. A bit more challenging to get 'em in quick without harm (unless they’re dinner).

I’m still using a USA made Penn 4400SS with a 7.5 ft. light action Shimano rod. If I’m around a lot of structure, like dock and rocks, I use my Penn 5500SS or one of my ABU Garcia baitcasters with 17lb. test.

Tough to beat the Abu Garcia 6500C3. I’ve got two, one is on a 6’6" MH Berkley Series One rod. The other is on a 6’4" All Star MH rod. I also just started using an Abu Revo Inshore on another 6’4" All Star MH rod but I haven’t caught much on it yet.
Also, for lighter lures I use a spinning rod/reel combo but haven’t found one that I really like yet.
Another vote for Abu baitcaster 5500c3. 7ft. Star MH rod. Still looking for spinning reel and rod. Anybody tried the new Penn Sargus reels?
