Your man-knitting lair

My wife often remarks that fly tying is like knitting for men, but that is not really the point of this post. Rather, I know Toothlessblue is getting ready to construct his man knitting lair and I suspect when Jerms returns from the ice, he will be doing the same. One of the fishing blogs I often check recently ran a series of photos depicting where members tie their flies. It was good to get ideas on how to arrange, store, and organize your materials. I say we do that same thing here. Each of us post a picture of our bench, kitchen table, etc., to get an idea of how other guys do it. I will post a pic of my area later today.

Will do when I get home. Good idea Chad.

sorry, even my cell camera sucks. I have a spare room the wife lets me “decorate”. i found by using bullitin boards, i can have everything i need in front of me and eliminates forgetting about which materials i have. the system has evolved and works magic. I also have a small tv and a cache of fushin movies in here. the closet was perfect for a old chest of drawers. i can store all the flylines and fly boxes in the drawers and waders and boots on the sides. a bookshelf for the mags and books and of course a couch for my mutt. i need a lil fridge and a window vent and id never leave…a urinal mounted on the wall too would seal the deal!!!

i’ll try and get some better pics later

good idea for a thread, Chad

One day I’ll have that many materials. One day…

I also really like the idea of the bulletin boards. Might have to look into that one.

Nice!! Looks like a Gershner (sp) machinist box.</font id=“blue”>

■■■■ you scottd I am jealous as hell. I am convertying a walk in closet so I won’t have the joys of having a window.

why thankyou gents! anytime yall are ready for a tying session/whiskey drink-off stop on by. id love to host or be invlved further in a group or similar minded tyers if anybody is still getting together. i work tues-thus at a bar so mondays are really the best day for me.

I’ve tied for 15 plus years. When I started, I promised I wouldn’t let it take over my life/house like all my other fishing vices. I resolved to limit it to one box of stuff. O-well! I did limit it to two boxes but, my production of flies has been able to supply my needs. Maybe the next thread can be our fly boxes of our favorite flies or most productive flies. Here are my fly tying boxes and flies that keep catching fish.

I did go buy this little desk but I haven’t gotten the good stuff yet.

The atmosphere is perfect and any females need written invitations to descend the stairs into my piece of heaven.

o hails yea, a fireplace! awesome room! “written invitations” I love it!

OK, took a while but here is my contribution. The desk has tons of space to store my stuff, plus I can roll down the top of the desk to hide all my mess.

I just use a normal computer desk. Put some tacks in it to hang stuff and bought a small plastic three-drawer thing to help with storage. Definitely thinking about getting some cork board to put across the back to use with thumbtacks.

PETA would take offense to that…

sg, I love that desk! I just don’t have room for a big setup like that. I figure on putting some folding side pieces on my desk and a book stand. I can store all my stuff inside. Nice gad-on-the-wall. I think I spy a couple of Sure-Shots/Yentzens?

the comp desk with the slid out keyboard drawer works great for storing hook and thead boxes…it’ll works great, as do the drawers for larger things like bucktails. bullitin boards are the key. much easier than pegboards or any o that. hey SG- good call on the JD and 420 ale- delicious. im suprised those fowl have any arse feathers left in your room
