Dear Polly…Nothing like opening day. The birds cooperate, and the heat makes you appreciate the air conditioning on the ride home. I agree on the Mojo…I think every other stand had one on it! I left mine in the truck and killed 13. I hope you have birds for the rest of the season, but keep in mind that Mother Nature has a say in it. One good low pressure system and poof!! They’re gone. Kill the limit when you can my friend.

Thanks for the advice, but this is not my first rodeo. The 14 years I have been hunting that field, there have been one or two occasions where the birds were blown out by a weather system. They always return a little later, maybe a few less, but they return.
The birds that are killed in the early season are resident birds, mine have increased each year, and hang around until the larger migratory birds arrive. If we gun out all the birds early, say the first two hunts, there are not that many to go around for a later date. There is nothing like hunting big migratory birds on a cold windy day in early January,a ■■■■■ of 10-12 blowing through the field makes for some fun shooting.
So,y’all can kill the limits on opening week,I’ll continue to manage mine for the long haul.
Hey Polly…I’m 63 years old and have been dove hunting in SC since my 20’s. I’ve belonged to dove clubs that existed probably before you were born, and have long gone the way of the dinosaur. I’ve experienced hurricanes and tropical storms in the 1st season that blew the birds all the way to the Bahamas, and they didn’t come back. I kill more birds in the 3rd season than any other, mainly because my club keeps feed available, but mostly because I’m one of a few who bother to show up in January. I can sit where they’re going vs. drawing a stand. That’s when the Mojo comes in handy. We shoot from 2:00PM until 5:00PM , and if the birds, my stand, and my shooting let’s me kill 15 I will. My Boykin appreciates the work. He’s the real reason I go, truth be told. Sounds like you’ve got a good field. Good luck and good shooting the rest of the seasons.
