What would be a good zero-in diatance for my .22? It is a Ruger w/ scope that I need to dial-in. Will be used for small game. Do I zero at 25 yards or go for 50 or further? Thanks…
How far will your typical shots be? Most 22LR has something like 5-6" of drop at 100 yards.
A rifle zeroed at 25 yards will, in most cases, be close to spot on at 50 yards due to the ballistics of standard velocity rounds.
A rifle zeroed at 50 yards should be dead on at about 20 yards, and a little high at 25.
There is no magic formula though. Just use 25 or 50 and you’ll be fine with a rimfire. But in my opinion, if I’m taking a bunch of 25 yard shots at targets or squirrels, I’m going to want pin-point accuracy at 25, and will zero scope accordingly.
For easy use of a 22LR, check out the BSA sweet 22 scope. Comes with turrets for different weight 22LR rounds. Zero scope at 50 yards, and if you wanna shoot 125 yards, just turn elevation knob to 125 and start shooting. They’re cheap, and decent glass for what they are.

Thanks…I went with a Simmons .22 scope, with Leupold base and rings…

I went thru this last year when I put a new scope on my 10/22. I tried 25 then 50. Settled on 35. About as tall of a tree as you will see a squirrel in. You don’t get many shots 50+. If you do just hold over a touch.

Crazy the drop and strays you’ll see after 50 yards on the cheaper ammo. My personal favorite for hunting with a .22lr are the CCI Stingers. I’ve heard they are hard on the rifling, but I’ve never had an issue.
Can’t beat the ruger 10/22, when I had a scope on it I zeroed at 25 yards.

I went and shot my 22’s last Monday and sighted in at 30 yards at 40 yards there was a .5 inch difference if that. However I did switch over to the CCI stingers that Fred67 mentioned and wholly cow. They shot 1 inch higher that the random box of 550 I had gotten for pinking. They were very accurate.

When My son and I do .22 pistol shoot offs that’s what I use. I like to do the thumping not getting thumped. We never bet money just get to hit each other over the best shot. Life is good, and fried pork chops are delicious.

I have one of those Sweet22’s on my 10/22 and am very pleased with it for sure. I also bought a BSA Catseye with an IR years ago for a .308 I had because the scope was cheap. Well, in that case, you get what you pay for…
