Zinc tab on a Yamaha 2 Strk

I’m changing out the tab on a 05’ Yamaha 150 2 stroke. Present one is set to center. I know it needs to be offset some to counter the prop torque. It’s on a 197sf Pioneer. What would be a good general setting that would work?

There is no general setting. Prop torque depends on trim angle (somewhat dictated by transom angle), engine mounting depth and the prop itself. If the wheel pulls too hard to the right then the tab needs to be offset to the right as well and vise versa. Ideally, you want the steering to be neutral at your normal cruise speed and trim. It may take a few tries to get it dialed in.

Thanks, I went out yesterday and the boat tracked dead center but with hydraulic steering, I can’t tell if the motor is pulling to the right or left. Turning the boat to the right and left seem to have the same pressure on the steering wheel. Today I moved it counter clockwise so that the trailing edge of the tab will be at 11:00.

Could dead center be the correct setting? Seems there would have to be some offset. Thanks again

If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

Having hydaulic steering makes setup much less critical. I would run dead center if force to turn is equal in both directions.
