I noticed there is a sign close to station 13 at Ft. Moultrie warning people about the hazardous surf. The sign indicates there is a 1040 dollar fine for swimming or wading. Has anyone ever heard of anyone being fined for fishing or wading in that area???
That’s a city ordinance just like Folly Beach, they can write you up to that, on a city summons ticket, I am sure they write it occassionly, just like on Folly they can write you for being in the water out towards the light house on the North end

So don’t wade there? I’m sure you can fish there though without any problems.

Just use your head over there. The current around the edge of sullivans island by the harbor can be really bad sometimes. Theres a seawall built near the fort you can fish from and it allows you to cast pretty far from the beach at high tide. Try there, if had decent luck from that spot in the past with atlantic sharpnose sharks and whiting.
I was told by the beach patrol, that if you go out and cast your bait and return back to the shore there will not be a fine. Now if you are standing in waist deep water fishing, you will be hit with a fine. They have that sign up to help keep you safe, just like Killn noted dur to the currents.
Hubby and I were fishing there a few weeks ago and there was a young man and woman neck deep in the water. We kept watching them, thinking how stupid they were. Sure enough, the young man got caught in the current and had a HARD time getting back in. They didn’t go past knee-deep after that.
killinR, i was told the same thing when i ask 2 weeks ago
