Fished this morning up lake, pulled boards covering about 5 miles of lake. We caught about a dozen, a few quality fish 6-8lbs, handful of keepers and a few shorts. We had about 2 dozen short strikes. Good crew of 3 and the day warmed up nicely.
Took my 3 kids this evening with a couple casting rods just wanting to chase a few fish. Had 2 hookups, fish weren’t thick like I thought. Son caught 3 fish including the true double, Striper on the buck tail with a perch on the icy fly. First for me.
Great job Mike! I’m so glad you now have everything you need to get the most out of striper fishing… Also, it was nice seeing your mom and dad at the MSC meeting tonight and having them join up again after all these years!
Thanks Fogman. Now that I’m rigged and starting to get a hang of the new days of Striper Fishing I plan to also join along with a few buddies. Can’t wait to join back up with the MSC family and fishing tournaments again. Hoping I can pull the good 'ol Fogman, Lee & Marshall days of catching my limit by 8am and napping til weigh in although I understand a lot of things have changed with the way tx work now.
Yep. A lot has changed with our tournaments. It’s no longer about a quick limit. It’s fishing wire-to-wire to put together the best 2 fish you can get for weigh-in.
I very much appreciate your reports. I’m still learning to striper fish on Lake Murray. I’ve been fishing a couple days a week the last few weeks pulling artificial baits around the Bear Creek area and out to Wessinger Island with not a lot of success.

I generally post all my reports on facebook. Alot of times this site is too slow to upload pix/video. Not to mention generally all reports get pretty redundant once a new season comes in.
After a week on downrods it’s all the same. After boards start it’s all the same, when they move shallow it’s all the same. Throw in a cutbait report here and there and you have the charleston fishing striper section in a nutshell…lol…
I never found this site really helpful on reports when starting out, what I did find helpful was the how to’s of striper fishing. Rigs, methods, gear etc. Took that info and developed my own style which can vary greatly sometimes while other times it’s right on que…

I remember not to many years ago your style was the towers with a cooler of herring in a small jon boat. You’ve come a long way since then.

Ain’t that the truth. We all should go back and try to dig up some of our 1st posts we made.
I can honestly say though I have done nothing but eat, sleep, breathe striper fishing the last 4-5yrs and that is what has made the difference.

I wish the un-edited version of the original post was still there. I seem to remember you weren’t very impressed with your first attempt with planers. Lol
