11/9 Report

Fished incoming tide with a Fla. boy who never fished our coast. He caught the first two keeper spottails and had one break him off within the first 30 minutes. He’s hooked. Managed 4 more bass then tried to catch a trout. Lots of boats on the stretch of bank so went back up in the creeks. Caught 3 keeper trout. Threw back a few and then they shut off. Pull the crab pot and headed back to the Ridge. Beautiful day on the S. Edisto. Fished Gulp, paddle tail grubs, and flukes. Normal holes did not produce much. Had to move around. Weekend should be a good one.

Also saw something free jump across from ■■■■■■■ cut–looked like a shortbill spearfish! It was at least 5 ft long and had a greenish silver color. We were close and it came all the way out of the water…and I was as sober as a judge. I never cease to be amazed.

May have been a sturgeon, they are that large and have a shortbill.

I don’t know…I’ve seen lots of sturgeon jumping through that area (usually spring and summer). They are white on the bottom and dark on top and more cylindrical looking. This thing was long and skinny like a sailfish without a long bill. I’ve seen sailfish free jump off the coast and this looked like that. One of the spottail I cleaned had a huge mantis shrimp in its belly–that was weird too. Like Bill Murray said in Ghostbusters–“weird stuff going on–dogs and cats living together.”
