Rumor has it that Paul Spencer has weighed in a new NC state record blue marlin today - 1,235 pounds!!!
I have had three calls thusfar so, it’s either true or a great rumor!
139 inches with a 80 INCH GIRTH!
Actual weight is 1228.5 lbs. It’s a monster!!! They landed it after a 2 hour fight. Paul Spencer was not the angler, but he was on the boat (Mimi). I’m pretty sure that the top 3 boats are all Paul Spencer boats. That seems like its pretty good advertising.

Fishing in the 25th annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament, Trey Irvine caught and brought in an Atlantic blue marlin that weighed a pending North Carolina state record 1,228.5 pounds. The fish likely will win several hundred thousand dollars for the crew on the Mimi.
The world record Atlantic blue marlin weighed 1,402.2 pounds and was caught off the coast of Brazil in 1992. The current North Carolina state record was a 1,142-pounder caught in 1974 by John Herrington.
Fewer than two dozen “granders” have ever been caught off the coast of the United States.

Fish was caught on a 130 2.5 hrs Capt Mike King Carolina Beach NC. Took 3 gaffs Capt Paul Spencer was on board length 139 girth 84. Trey Irvine was the angler.

yeah when are they gonna stop doing this! appeasing the dock gawkers really seems stupid these days. Why not just measure the fish release it and take a picture of the measurements. these guys look like a bunch of hook in jaw fools! especially the dumbass beer gut dude on the phone. He probably owns the Mimi. $$$$$$ can be won without killing fish!
