2006 Sea Pro SV2100CC bay UPDATE please help!

UPDATE again: Talked to the mechanic again this morning. He said that they could do a reconditioned lower unit for around 1250.0. I would much rather have it done down here, unless the seller wants to fix it himself up there. The mechanic also said that he wouldn’t be concerned with the other stuff. The compression was great, no codes, and hours were right on that motor. He said he wouldn’t hesitate to buy it, if that is negotiated into the price. Said the rest of the boat just needed to a good detail and that the hull was spotless otherwise. I am still torn! Major decider will be renegotiating, and what my friend says after the sea trial on Saturday. Still accepting any and all advice from fellow charlestonfishing.com friends! Thanks

I have a buddy with that same boat, not exactly sure of the year but in that range i think. We have fished and cruised it often and it rides ok. It isn’t the most comfortable boat i’ve been on but it’s not even close to the worst. He just added a leaning post which has made the seating a little more comfortable.

As far as power i think the 150 is plenty. His has a smaller Suzuki on it and i have the Yam 150 on my 20’ and i think the extra power would help the ride on his boat.

What area are you in? My buddy is on James Island and will be on the water today and tomorrow, so you could probably meet him somewhere to see the boat.

Sea,

I think StretchArmstrong has the exact model you’re looking at, and he makes his living off of it. I’ve fished with him on it several times, and it’s a smooth, stable, dry ride. Send him a PM, and I’m sure he can answer just about any question you have.

On another note, I sent you a PM about your 17-footer. Holler at me when you have a second.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Ah-oh; Looks like Bart is in the market:question::smiley:

I had a 2003 2100 with the 150 Yamaha, great boat for what it is, I just had a different type of fishing that I wanted to pursue. When I bought it I had the wife in mind thinking she would be out with me all the time. Turns out I like taking the boat out way more than she does, live and learn. 150 pushes it nicely, I think I was in the low to mid 40s mph top end.

Took it to Charleston sixty frequently and she handled fine. Flat running stable boat that will get shallow enough to get to the reds and has enough to it to catch sheeps at capers or nearshore. Good all around boat. Kept it for three years and then traded up in size. If you have a bay now and like it, you should really love this boat.

Tabs would be really nice, but not a necessity.

Thanks again for the replies…
AyeJoe: I sent you an email
BlackBart: I sent you a pm, and emailed stretch! Thanks for the help
23sailfish: I do love my 17’ but need more room for the family. How many people can you sit comfortably on this boat. It does have a rear seat pad, and backrest. No trim tabs though:( I am glad to hear that I can still hit the flats. My bay is small enough that I can pole it pretty easy. The SeaPro has a 36V 101 trolling motor so I am sure it can pull me through some flats as well. I just get a little nervous about things I have heard about seapro from their ride to finish. Any con’s you can think of? Not trying to talk myself out of it, but just want to make an educated decision. It is at the bottom of my price range which is great! I would rather save the money, if the boat is worth it. I also wonder how others have dealt with buying out of state? I want to get the boat checked out by a dealer, but was wondering how that worked as well. Thanks in advance again!

I believe rick hiott has one as well. He fished the jettied frequently and inshore. It had a nice ride and fishability , I’d definitely put a T-top on and a leaning post though

There’s nothing wrong with a sea pro boat. Bay boats fit a particular need and aren’t perfect for every type of fishing, but no boat is. Its a great all around Charleston area boat, don’t talk yourself out of it. People can say what they want, but it is what it is. Sea pro makes a mid tier boat. The fit, finish, and performance match that. It will be comparable to other mid tier boats like key west or sea hunt.

For fishing, we fished four many times comfortably. More than that is crowded. 3 is actually ideal to me. For hanging out with the family, four is the magic number as well. Five if you are just cruising around. Mine had the bench seat option across the back and a 8’ bimini top, so it felt very open. T-top would be nice, but a bimini is a cheaper option.

I would use that trolling motor and put the push pole away. You could probably do it, but I can’t imagine it would be easy.

As far as getting it checked out, a compression check at a certified mechanic is a minimum when buying any used boat.

All good advice. That hull is a good one. It might be the same mold used on the tidewater? I wouldn’t hesitate to get that boat

I had an 04 and loved it! There are better rides but for many more $. Plenty of room for 3-4 and good for booze cruises as well. Took it to the Edisto Offshore numerous times on really good days. With the right prop, the 150 will push it to the low 40’s. While my current 23’ gets me offshore a little more, there are days I wished I had kept the 21 bay and just put a T-top on it. Will be selling my 23 soon and looking for the same thing again! As you can tell, I really like Sea Pro’s.

The tidewater is similar - but I don’t think its the same mold. When brunswick purchased Sea Pro in 06’, they kept making the SV series with few changes, when they nixed the SeaPro line in 08’, they rebadged the SV series with the Trophy name and continued thru 11’-12’.

I bought a used 2007 Sea Pro 2100CC and I enjoy the heck out of it. NO compliants. Rides fine, trim tabs help. I have a 200 hp Merc Optimax on it, plenty of power, I think a 150 would work fine. My wife likes the ample storage, open deck space. Fit and finish is good. No regrets. This is our second season on it and would not change a thing, and I love the Optimax.

Thanks chris v, and everyone else for making me feel alot better about this boat. I am getting a shop to do compression test, computer diagnostics, and a good once over tomorrow before driving there. The boat has a 101lb 36v trolling motor already on it!

Just got the call from the mechanic and the good news is the compression is 150 on all cylinders. Motor has 204 hours, didn’t throw any codes, and started and ran just fine. The bad news is that the skeg is broken, prop shaft is bent, and stainless propeller needs to be reworked. He mentioned that there could be other issues with the lower unit, due to the bent prop shaft, but couldn’t tell without taking it off. He also said that the oil was really black and probably hasn’t been changed in a while, and that the spark plugs could have been the originals, because they had quite a bit of buildup. The owner admitted that the boat has been sitting, but said the skeg was broke when he bought it, and has never had any trouble with it. I imagine hitting something hard enough to break the skeg, and bend the prop shaft, that there could be other damage not seen. The owner said that he had no idea that the shaft was bent because it drove just fine. He is willing to negotiate on price to cover the repairs. I have a friend that works in the boating industry up there and he is doing a river test on Friday with the guy. My main question is would you still consider buying the boat? The mechanic said that with a little elbow grease (dirty bilge area, and compartments, etc), good service, and the right price it would make a fine boat. I have almost talked myself out of it but wanted to hear your opinion. On one hand I think that there is too much neglect, but on the other hand I will get a steal on this boat and fix it up right. What are your thoughts? Thanks as always for any advice on what you may do in this situation.

It would have to be really good priced. NADA has used boat values on the web also. Not really an end all for pricing, but a good start.
