I stopped after work and looked at new 200 and 220XT bay boats. I really liked the layout of them. The front looked really flared like it would direct the waves away pretty good.
Do you guys think it would be ok to do some reef fishing? How would it handle 2-3ft waves and the emergency 5 footers? I am trying to avoid a huge rig as reef fishing May be 30-40% duty but I want to make sure it is capable if a storm pops up quickly.
I just bought one and havent had a chance to take it out to the reefs but went to jetties and no problem at all dry all day with baby on board and comfortable too. only been able to get out three times so far and it gets in shallower water well too. when I did get to jetties it was during higher tides and current was stronger and nobody got wet so i would think on some good days ill be able to get out there no problem. storage is good too. if you wana know more let me know.
I just bought the 200XT also. Haven’t had it a week yet, so still in the break in period. Rain this weekend is pizzing me off. So far i LOVE this boat. Ride is nice and dry. Lots of storage like dawgfish said. Would definately recommend it. I got it to mainly be an inshore fishing boat, but i could easily see taking it to the jetties or a nearshore reef.
Dawgfish-have you got a cover for yours? i am in the process of shopping for one. Damm oak trees
Yeah I got one at West Marine made my Taylor Made. Fits 20-22 ft bay boat is what it will say on box for size. Fits good but the first time you put it on there are two pullcords at the aft end (fits over moter also) that you have to pull real tight unless you want your loose to prevent mold and what not but I keep mine a lil tight just to keep crap out of it but it works good and straps work good. i Just tied the pullcords and tied em off so I can adjust them later if needs more air inside but I uncover it enough to keep it ventilated. it cost around 300something but cant fit in garage so gotta do it.
I did. Still haven’t got the drawstring elastic thing like i want it, but i’ll keep fiddlin with it until i get it how i like it. But it seems to be good quality fabric and good seam work.
Looks good I went with the yellow I really had to pull hard wrapping the cord around my hands and walking with it while pulling. Definately seems to be sturdy and has good vents too. Congrats
I believe we have it narrowed down to either a 220 or 240 now. I am personally leaning toward the 220. The wife likes the 240 for the porta potty. I spec’d one with the 225 Vmax, jack plate, and trim tabs. I think I will have the t-top made locally. I don’t like the factory installed units. The screws are crooked and half stripped. They just look flimsy compared to a well fabricated unit.
I think it is money well spent maxing out the hp. I know the difference between the regular 150hp and the 225 vmax is a pretty good hit.
Nice I wish I could’ve gone higher on motor but was already at Max price plus I wanted electronics and room for trolling motor later plus my wife just pees in the second livewell if empty.
Ok, I have another seafox question. Why did Hankle quit selling them? I am starting to have reservations about buying a boat from a car lot. What if I need warranty repairs? The closest “real” dealer is in NC. They say warranty repairs can be done in Charleston. Maybe I am overthinking things. I just don’t want to drop 35k on a mistake.
remember what I wrote you. There you will probably find your answer.

I know what you are saying. I thought that but I have spoken to a lot of seafox owners that love their rigs and how the hull is holding up. I asked a guy at Wests and he says it was hanckles fault and seafox dropped them.
I don’t believe everything I hear but every rumor has at least 10% truth in it. I keep wanting for these boats to be good. It is the best layed out boat (imo) to be had right now. The sea hunt is second but too pricey for me with the big motor. I am also still looking for a quality used rig in the 10-15k range but they seem to be far and few between.
I just spent over a year doing what you are doing. Boat shopping is not easy. you may should call Blue Wave out in OK. they will somewhat customize your layout. Dad got a 20 blue wave and they layed out the inside like he wanted it and he could not find another company (in the right price range)to do that for him since he wanted the console way far back in the boat. They make good boats too. look at those tidewater boats too. i dont know alot about them but they have two bay boat layouts and the ones i have seen seem to be well made.also, like sea fox, in the great state of sc. if you dont mind me asking, how much did your boss want for that sea pro and what year is it? if you dont want to tell prices i understand.

I could probably have picked it up for 10-11k. It is actually on consignment now at Henrys in mt pleasant. I looked at it on Saturday and he really let the interior go to hell. It also has a 150, he had the hp rating mixed with another boat of his.
After I sell my McKee I will have about 15k to either buy another used boat or put it as a down payment on a new one.

I’m about 4 weeks into a 2012 220XT and I love this boat. The layout for what I use it for is by far the most efficent on the market. The price point can’t be beat either. The local sales guys really worked with me to get the boat with the options I wanted in my price range. I took almost three months before I finally pulled the trigger. I looked up and down the coast and just couldn’t find anything comparable.
FWIW
Bulls Bay Marine joined up right before I bought my boat and did a great job installing a few of the extras I ordered. The factory is in Moncks Corner so any major warrantee work can go back there if needed - really dont forsee needing any though! I have the standard SF T-top and feel like it is rock solid.
My only complaint was financing. I started with BOA and thought SF would be able to find a better deal but that was a waste of time. BOA crushed everyone(4.7%)
Yeah bulls bay rigged mine as well Guy did a bangup job with stereo chartplotter and VHF and top. I’m pretty sure any Yamaha dealer can perform warranty work.I shopped Florida to north Carolina and they hang with everyone. Storage layout is perfect.
Matt if you want to ride in a BX22 w/ an F250 let me know. Don’t let them sell you one with a 150 on it.
Boatless
I may take you up on your offer. Do you have the new 4.2l? The salesman was insisting a 250hp was overkill and there was tons of them with 150’s. The specs show at 30 mph the 3.3l 150 was at 4k and the 250 was at 3k. That alone should sell it. That is a whole lot less wear and tear keeping the engine 1k rpm less.
