Fished with Mr. Webster on Saturday. Not a bad day considering 15mph winds and angry surf. On the beach just after the low tide turn. Got bites right away. Landed some decent Whiting, one tipping the Boga at 2lbs+. One nice Black Drum with a couple babies, a keeper sized Speck and 5 Palometa. As the surf came up and wind increased became almost unfishable. Off the beach about 2:00.
Nice fish i have never seen that palometa fish before
Good day for you and Mr. Web. Big whiting for sure, how long was it?

Small hooks.
Very good day. I learn something different every time we fish. Thanks for the knowledge , sir.

David nice report I see that you managed to catch some fish despite strong winds and angry surf, Did you just time it right after low tide ?
Whenever I look at the surf conditions the moment I see the wind above 10mph I tend to avoid going out but maybe I can and same thing you did.
those palometas taste like catfud. you need me to come remove those from your fridge?

Peapod, you must be immune to Ciguatera. I am not.
Pompanos have that cigar stuff?

Pompano do not contain this toxin. Palometa are very likely to have high levels though. I’ve already caught more Palometa in 2017 than I have in the past 10 years. They are bigger as well.
I wouldn’t eat them.
“Ciguatera is a foodborn illness (food poisoning) caused by eating fish that is contaminated by ciguatera toxin. Ciguatera toxin is a heat-stable lipid soluble compound, produced by dinoflagellates and concentrated in fish organs, that can cause nausea, pain, cardiac, and neurological symptoms in humans when ingested.”
