Not saying anything is wrong with Drftmasters - lots of people use them and they seem to work just fine …
But, let me ask you a dumb question … By the time you buy those Driftmasters and the rail mount attachments … How much are you paying per rod holder???
I mean, I’m not saying Driftmasters don’t have one or two advantages, but price and looks aren’t among the reasons to buy them … and difficulty of installation was a deal breaker for us …
Rail mount bases are only good up to 1" and they are always on backorder … at $10ea for just the base, by the time you get the actual Driftmaster you’re paying $26 - $32ea …
I can get these Tournament rod holders to fit any rail size and they are completely adjustable to suit any application - Inshore, Offshore, or Freshwater …
But by all means, keep on looking for those hard to find driftmaster parts … I’m sure they’ll catch fish too …
If I knew about those or where to get them I would’ve already had a handful. Took me this long to find these mounts. I’m all for saving $$. Hell it doesn’t matter if they match. How much are the ones you posted and where can I find them? Also, I spent $126 @ Dooleys for 4 rod holders and 2 bases. Needed something quick and convenient Thursday morning before work and that’s where I went.

Still a tremendous fish buddy! You obviously rigged your rod holders well. Hopefully, that ties it all together.

Lake Murray Hardware & Marine Supply in Ballentine has the biggest selection of Driftmaster stuff that I’ve seen anywhere around Murray. It’s in the shopping center at Hardee’s. Been about a year since I’ve been in there though. Might want to call first.
I bought most of my rod holders at the Midlands striper club annual yard sale. They were $5 each and bases were $2. Bought a pair of knockoff driftmasters on Ebay and the “stainless” rusted out. I prefer the driftmaster rod holders over the “tube” type. For me it’s kind of awkward getting the rod holder out of the tube when a fish is pulling. The break away tube ones are good too.

Hey buddy. Seen Todd last week and he said your motor didn’t look good. Ready for new one yet?

Nice fish! i posted a report earlier this year when i tried to fish for stripers from a kayak for the first time. I managed to lose a huge one that exploded on a pencil popper. I got several good looks at it before it got off, and at first i thought my eyes were deceiving me because it was so big… I wasnt really aware that they got that big in lake murray. Glad to see reports of 30 lb fish that legitimize my story about the big one getting away
I have both drift master style SS rod holders and some of these Scotty’s on my rails.
I don’t particularly care for the looks of the Scotty’s, but they are more versatile than any others I have had. Just lift up on them about 1/2’ and you can rotate them 360. They just lift right out of the mount to remove them only takes a few seconds to adjust the angle for fishing cut bait. Never need a tool to do anything except if you want to slide the base down the rail.
