I will have all the rules and such printed out as part of the entry form, but some of the basics are…

Yes cut/live bait is allowed for this tounament for the conventional division ONLY. (You tip a fly with bait and I’ll take it away from you and beat you with it… spoon flies are ok but ya better not be baiting a fly )

The entry fee is still $40.00.

No powered kayaks/canoes. You can PEDDLE but motors, battery or gas, are not allowed, YOU are the motor leave the motors at home, they can’t be on the kayak for the tourney. Thats just the way it is.

Redfish must be at least 15" to score but there is no top end, if you catch a 40" redfish it’s a 40" redfish.

All photos MUST BE CLEAR AND IN FOCUS. if I can’t read the measurement I can’t score a fish.

The ENTIRE fish must be visiable in the photo.

You can submit as many fish as you’d like but only the longest will be scored.

You can compete in the conventional and the fly divisions at the same time, fly fish must have the fly rod and reel in the photo to count towards this catergory.

Time and date MUST BE CORRECT ON YOUR CAMERA or the fish will be disqualified, Sorry no cell phone pix, it has to be a camera I can download the images from.

The 1st photo of your fishing MUST show your kayak rigged to fish, with ruler and identifier at first safe light of the fishing day. If this shot is missing all fish will be disqualified.

Catch and release is suggested but if you do want to keep fish they must be legal ( in the slot for reds, over 14" for trout etc) and ALL fish caught, released or kept, must be reported to the Tournament Director (Me). PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY ILLEGAL FISH TO THE WEIGH IN… any angler with illegal fish will be reported to DNR.

The 1st year we were small enough but last year brought us up to where we need to report all catches to DNR and stuff. This is a very easy, fun tournament that you can win a few nice prizes… I have a pretty good line on getting us a Kayak to give away for 1st place… I can PROMISE

Is there a certain type of fish-ruler that is recommended for this? Is the DNR ruler acceptable? Thanks…

the DNR Ruler is always acceptable… as long as it is easy to read it’s cool… I don;t want to see yardsticks or tape measures since they are so small and hard to read and no home made rulers please. 3-2-1 Fish has a great ruler and the Check It Stick is pretty much the IFA standard but pricey. I will have the full rules and such posted soon… I just have to revise some since we are not limiting fishing to one location this year.

The basics are above about 4 threads from yours Local. We are also looking at bumping the entry fee up to $50 and getting t-shirts done for the participants. It looks like we have about as many as last year fishing and we are hoping to get our participation up and this hopefully will spur a kayak manufacturer into donating a kayak for 1st place… Of course there are a couple that obviously do not want to help HOW out but we have others we are talking to. Tell everyone you know and especially if you know anyone who is a combat injured Vet, we’d love to have them fish wiht us at no cost to them and we will provide everything they need even a guide for the day. the rest of you are on your own

Looks like we are almost tied up for last years participants… I should have a couple Vets I was assigned with fishing with us too and if they come that will put us over last year… Keep spreading the word about HOW and the tourney… Check out www.heroesonthewater.org and you can see what a real difference kayak fishing makes to some of our Heroes. the simple act of fishing is a very powerful healing tool.

Looks like we have our first Vet signed up. Right now with the positive responses we will be over the 30 kayakers we had last year. Thanks to all who help out and support HOW and our Tourney!

All right folks… I will have the rules posted up by Monday, but the basics are:
Capts Meeting at the Summerville, TCA ( 2143 N. Main St. Summerville, SC 29483) at 6:30 PM 7 October 2011. Refreshments, food and raffle will abound.

Fishin will start at first safe light Saturday Morning anywhere in charleston area waters (Bulls bay to Edisto no further North or south of those points)

Weigh in will be at the Mt. P TCA ( 1113-J Market Center Blvd, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464) from 2PM to 5PM. THATS TWO P.M. TO 5P.M… winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded at 5:30PM 8 October 2011.

Entry fee is $40 and we will also have a Best Dang Tackle box and Best Dang Fly Box raffle along with other raffle items.

This is a CPR tourney so make SURE you have a working digital camera, sorry cell phones won’t work unless you have a removable SD or micro-sd card and adapter that can be read by my card reader, I can read SD cards and Compact flash cards, if you camera does not have a card of this type YOU must provide a cable to download the photos. More in the rules about measuring and photographing fish.

There will be no pinched tail measurements. There is no way to standardize the tail pinch unless fish are brought in and we aren’t doing that so flat tail measurements.

All other details will be posted later today or Tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting and fishing with ya’lll!!!

  1. This tournament will take place from first safe paddling light to 2PM on 8 October 2011. The location will be any waters in and around Charleston SC. Weigh on will be at the Mt. Pleasant Charleston Angler from 2-5PM. Launch can be from any legal/public landing in the greater Charleston Area but a photo of your kayak rigged and ready to fish at first light must be the first photo on your camera. It is up to the angler to ENSURE his or her Camera is set to the correct date and time to ensure proper scoring. In the event of a dispute any incorrect date/times will result in a disqualified fish.

  2. REGISTRATION: All anglers must be registered with HOW Chapter Coordinator or designee in writing by 8 October 2011 at 7AM. The tournament Director reserves the right to extend the deadline. Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors are eligible to participate with a parent or legal guardian signature on the registration/release form. A completed entry form and entry fee must be received no later than the published entry date.

3.) This is a Catch, Photo and Release tournament. If you decide to harvest the fish they must be legal fish to keep and abide by SCDNR rules. Any angler with illegal fish kept will be turned into SCDNR. Keeping illegal fish will not be tolerated. Each Angler is eligible to weigh-in their Longest Redfish (Red Drum). Any fish under the lower Slot size will not be scored. For SC this means your fish must be at least 15 (FIFTEEN) inches minimum to score, conversely longer fish will be scored at the length of the fish i.e. a 34 redfish is scored as 34 not any fish over is automatically scored at 30. A clear, in focus photo of each fish with tournament identifier, handed out with complete registration form, and on a clearly visible ruler showing total length of a closed mouth fish must be in the photo with an [u]UNPINCHED TAIL[u]. Any photo not displaying a tournament identifier will be automatically disqualified. Only

I can’t wait.
