Left the hizzy at 3:15. Headed to the south triple ledge. had lines in the water at 715. temp was 70.4 at 160 ft. picked up first phin at about 9:15, a loner. worked east to find a weed line. found one in about 300 ft that still was not very formed. there was a sporty working it a good ways up that had something on that was tailwalking. never got close enough to see the boats name or hear anything on the radio about it. worked the line for several passes. picked up two more phin. there was no temp break so worked east, probably a mistake. picked up one more, broke the other off at the boat at 500ish feet. worked out way to 1100 and 76.2 degrees with no more hits. water was beautiful and fishy, nothing. trolled back in towards some bottom numbers. radio was slow, everyone was picking at them. heard one boat on a line north of us in about 600 killing it, figured it was the line that i had left several hours earlier, mistake! picked up another two on a temp break on the way back in. did have a couple spit hooks during the day and one cut off at the leader with a hog hoo. all in all, a pretty good day.
heard peps on the radio in 1500+ ft, and they were catching nothing to write home about. they said they were in 78 deg water and not doing any better than we were. the only different thing was the size they were catching, slobs!
did see about a thousand rays just below the surface in about 30’ on the way in. pretty crazy. they were in big groups of 20-50.
