Drove down from Charlotte and fished the S. Edisto on Tuesday with my brother and a close high school friend. (We graduated in 1963.) Fished low water in the morning with minnows under popping cork up at the end of a small creek. Thought we could see some Reds feeding but got no bites. Water was really dirty. As the tide rose we went out to the S. Edisto and trolled over shell bottoms using a variety of plastics. Picked up two very nice trout, both using Zman pearl minnows with gold Trout eyes. Each time we caught a fish trolling, we stopped and cast thoroughly over the area but got no more strikes. Dirty water might have been a problem. When the tide dropped we went back to the same place where we thought we saw Reds in the morning and tried again. The Reds were there and they were hungry. We caught five upper slot or slightly over slot reds. All caught on minnows (including some very small dead minnows) under popping corks. The bite didn’t last too long (probably because it was a small area and we spooked the fish pretty quickly) but while the bite lasted it was a hard hit on every cast. Fun day on the water with close brother and close friend. Friend took the trout home for dinner. All Reds released. They deserved it.
Good going!
