The SC Chapter of HOW is going through some growing and changes. I will no longer be the Chapter Coordinator/President of the chapter here. I will be turning it over to Scott Mahan in August. I will still be here to help and support HOW but I feel its time for some new blood to re-invigorate the chapter and get it going strong again. Please help me welcome Scott and show him the same support yall have given me. he is also going to need more chapter officers as the current ones are leaving the area and moving on due to military requirements. If you’d like to volunteer as a Board member let me know and I will get you in touch with Scott.
As yall know its almost October and that means Yup… the Redfishville Shoot Out!!! I will be acting as the Tournament Director again and Scott will be the Co-Director so he can get his feet wet. We are looking to have the tourney on Saturday, October 27, 2012 and of course the Capts meeting on Friday, October 26, 2012. The location for the Capts Meeting is TBD but I should have a location this coming week and will post it up. I am open for suggestions for a new venue for the meeting We have traditionally done it at one of the Charleston Anglers but we can always switch it up to a restaurant or something different. We just need something with enough room and parking.
Like last years Tourney you will be able to fish ANY CHARLESTON waters No runnin to Myrtle beach or Savannah, fish around here.
Artificial lures or bait is allowed (Live or Dead), open to anyone who would like to fish provided your kayak/canoe is human powered not motor driven. Hobies are OK but kayaks with motors need to leave the motors at home for this one.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place for tops 3 Redfish and of course the Splooshers Cup. Speaking of which lets make sure that makes its way back this year.
As always we are looking for sponsors for each place. We need a 1st place sponsor, 2nd place sponsor, 3rd place sponsor and a Splooshers Cup Sponsor. This is not a payout cash tourney, we
I just heard something I wanted to clarify… this is NOT an invitation only event… If you know people who might be interested in this PLEASE let them know anyone is welcome!!!
It is a kayak tourney so no powerboats, if you need a kayak we have one of our Sponsors, Time Out Sport and Ski in Mt. Pleasant that can rent kayaks rigged for fishing, some of us have extra kayaks we could loan and of course for our injured Heroes we have everything you’ll need.
Just wanted to update ya’ll… If we can get 60 paid anglers fishing we will have a New Jackson Kayak donated for the top prize. Right now we have 26 people who have said they would fish… Spread the word, invite all your friends, support a good cause and have fun fishin!!!
Ken, I’m trying but I’m supposed to be on call that weekend and if I can’t get a day trade I’m not sure that I can come. hearing that there may be a jackson kayak for top prize will surely sweeten the pot and should invite more anglers. I’m still working on trades but don’t count me as a Definite quite yet. You know I’ll come if I can.
I have some calls to make but it looks like we will have t-shirts this year… I am looking at a black shirt wiht a big how logo on the back and a small one on the front… Not sure what cost will be but i’ll have pictures and a price up as soon as I can work out a deal…
Active Duty are always welcome and we can do an Active Duty entry fee for them. HOW supports injured Vets so that is our main focus. We pay for all they need, We still appreciate the active duty folks, I was one for 22 years, and we’ll help them out. If it is a person between E-1 and E-4 we’ll take care of them but anyone over E-5 should be abel to afford $40 to help out their Brothers and Sisters
Looks like we will have a prize pack donated by DOA Lures, and a couple of other big name sponsors have said they would support… I’ll hold off on announcing who they are until we get everything finalized. Right now FB says we have 29 people attending and I know of just a few more that said they would be there… Keep spreading the word and lets make this a record turnout!! Remember 60 paid entries and we get a Jackson kayak for 1st place…
I’ll definatley will be there along with my 16 yro son. i guess it would look really bad if the new SC Chapter Coordinator- for Heroes on the Water wasn’t there.
DOA Lures sent us a goodie box, and we have a 8ft stake out pole kit coming from Palmetto Kayak fishing for prizes as well. So far 30 people have signed up via FaceBook and we have a few more but we need 60 paid entries for the Kayak for first place… Tel all your friends and if you know any injured vets who would like to fish got them in touch with us!!
No, we actually have a private donor who will buy the winner a kayak of his choosing of we can get 60 paid entries. I have been trying for 4 years to get a yak company to sponsor the tourney but they all say we don’t have enough participation… even though all 3 years our tourney has exceeded the IFA turnouts
