6-15 botany bay, my biggest fish

Took the family out to Botany Bay this afternoon. Had a good friend come along also. Started out with a couple baby sharks, couple whiting, and a small ray caught on shrimp. Kept the whiting for the sharks. My friend’s son caught a nice 16" red on a piece of shrimp.

We weren’t getting any bites on the shark rods so we moved down further south to the inlet and caught a ray, whiting, croaker. We headed back out the surf and tried for the sharks again. It took a while, but something substantial finally grabbed my bait and took off. It was a nice battle, I knew it was my biggest fish. Took about 10-15 minutes to get him to the beach. Grabbed him by the tail and dragged him to a little shallower water for some pics. Quickly unhooked and walked him back out to deeper water to release. Didn’t get a measurement, but i’m guessing around 4.5’ long. Felt like a good 60lbs or so. Pretty sure it was a blacktip.

Next my buddy hooks up with a fairly light action spinning rod/reel and catches a nice sharpnose.

It was a long afternoon with not much shark action, but the couple we caught made it worth it.
