6/16 - 6/17 Grouper Magic

Headed out 6/16 on the Mama Becky in hopes to catch limits on groupers and other bottom fish. Bait was easy to come by in which we had around 120+ nice cigar minnows. Now on the way to the SW Banks. Arrived there at 8:20 and had a three man limit of grouper at 8:40. Biggest grouper measured 36". With groupers off the list we then put several nice silky and vermillions in the boat. After that we spotted a few schoolies swimming right next to the boat which we took advantage of two. The rest of the day we continued to catch big grouper but couldn’t keep anymore… Ended 6/16 with 26 grouper, plenty of snapper, couple mahi, and our fair share with AJ’s.

Headed out 6/17 again on the Mama Becky. Had to work hard for the bait and stay away from sharks but made it work. Now on the SW Banks. Got there around 9:30 and started to drop lines. First few drops resulted in several nice scampy’s. After catching several of those the grouper bite turned off and the silky bit turned red hot. Within no time we had a four man limit of huge silky’s in the box. All measured from 19-22". With steady action of groupers, snappers, and AJ’s the luck train kept going. Dropped a big cigar minnow down and BOOM a nice Cobia is on. Within 20 minutes he was in the box and we were headed to the dock. Ended 6/17 with 9 grouper, 20 silky’s, 1 Cobia, a lot of silver snapper, and AJ’s.

I think y’all have done this before, you made it look way too easy!:smiley:

Appreciate it. I am going to post a video of those days soon that I made on my gopro.

I think you are calling Red Porgies Silks. I only see Vermilion Snapper, Red porgies, triggers and scamp and Gag grouper. Silks look identical to Red Snapper except they have a yellow iris and are not common.

Nice haul!

Nice work on the grouper!

i second sells

Forgot to put this in the report, but took my cousin which was his first time off shore and showed him what a remora was… Hahaha

Man…we went out Wednesday, caught our limits of (**() near everything, but grouper wise we could only get 2 speckled Hinds. Are live baits a must right now…?

Good job guys!

Did that remora leave a big “hickie” on his back?

nice report and nice boat! 39 contender?

Live baits seem to be a must this season for grouper. Left a huge hickie on his back ! And yes it is a 39 contender.

Watch the video I just finished as well!
