All-
Finally got my new boat. Planning to head out to 6HI for the first time toward the end of May. I have the location but would appreciate any additional information on that site. What is on that wreck/reef? Best bait/lure? Recommended rig, etc? Thanks in advance.

Good chance Cobia, Spadefish, mostly undersized BSB’s.
Jellyballs are great for the Spades.
For the Cobia, live bait such as eels, menhaden, greenies, whiting, but jigs will work at times.Have a rod ready in boat, as a curious Cobia is likely to show boat side[:0]!
Good Luck, what kind of boat ya get?

I like to have a cuda tube rigged on a spinning rod for when that unexpected cobia shows up boat side. They will usually jump on it.

BX22 Sea Hunt with 4 stroke 150 Yamaha - that enough boat to get out there?
Thanks all for the responses- any other near shore locations you’d recommend over 6hi? And speaking of undersized BSB- where are the keepers?

Get the free scdnr book with all of the reef coordinates in it. It lists every thing that has been sunk at every reef.
Take the time to put all of them in your machine for each reef you’ll be fishing. When you’re done you’ll have a good
start on where to start fishing.

In the middle of the page is a list of downloadable files to put on a sd card. That makes it a whole lot easier than putting all those numbers in one at a time.

Nice boat, Monty. I’ve gotta Bulls Bay 2200 and run out 20 miles if conditions are right.
As they say, gotta pick your days!
Also, keep in mind as summer approaches, those afternoon thunderstorms can pop up quickly. Don’t want one between you and land!

I also think that a tube lure is one of the best lures ever invented. I always have one rigged and ready, plus troll with them. When I charter fished I would buy hot pink and chartreuse tubing in 50’ spools and make make my own. Almost every fish will bite a tube lure.

Here is an example of what’s in the new book. The link above only provides 2 waypoints for Betsy Ross. The book lists 20 with what is on bottom. The downloadable list at the link is not up to date and incomplete.
6HI is a good sized area. There is a barge/bridge section we all like to fish/dive but plenty of bottom debris dropped by scdnr. Cruise it and mark the numbers. Go back and fish, troll, dive. We even picked up Mahi there.
