Set out about 7pm and put in the poles. Mixed up the bait binder and threw 3-4 per pole. The first pass was awesome. 30-50 med-lg shrimp per throw. I had visions of a full cooler this time.
Made 2 1/2 passes then the motor shut off. Tried several times to restart and not even a sputter. I pulled the cowling off and noticed the fuel pump was not running. I checked a few things, smacked the fuel pump with a pair of pliars and suddenly it came back to life.
I took this as my sign to gather up the poles and get back to the landing. Got the poles and headed back when it cut out again. I called boatus and it would be at least 2.5hrs til they could get there. This time my bag of tricks was not working. I was about 600 yards to the marina so we started poling.
We got about half way there and someone came to help us. I really wished I got his name. He was from Columbia and had a 17-18’ Scout. He tugged me the rest of the way. Thank God for people helping out.
I got the manual out and found the main power relay was not working. I went out and bought all new relays and fuses for everything. I believe I will give it another go tonight.
Thanks for the report Matt. I elected to not come down this weekend. Wife is sick and the winds were not looking to be shrimping friendly. May give it another shot in a few weeks. Glad to hear the shrimp were there for you. Hope you get that issue fixed quick.
Sitting out here in the water now, boats running good (knocking on wood)
1 poling it tonight. I just idled around and anchored when I saw shrimp popping. It’s semi-productive right now. 8-10 per throw with some 20+. All are at least medium with a dozen or so quarter pounders.
Either way, I would rather be out looking at the stars, drinking beer and enjoying the quiet than watching tv at home.
Hate to hear about the boat trouble but glad your catching some shrimp. Mr and my 5 year old are coming down Thursday and try them a couple of times. Probably gonna stick close instead of running over to
St Helena.
MattR - Great job! May your freezer soon be full! Sounds like you are learning the area very quickly.
Optiker - Like your trout slot! We caught 30 something the other day and kept 2 - 1 16" and 1 18". Hope our winter is not too bad this again this year.
