9 Hour Bottom Charter & The Mako Story & T Star

Found a ledge in 85’ of water with a 10’ wall so I stop my trip to 110’ to look at the bottom. Decided to drift it to check it out, on the drift we got 1 Gag 12lbs and one short ARS. So we stayed there and fished. Had problems with setting the hook today as the current was doing a 360 at one degree every ten minutes. Ended the day with:
1 Gag
1 Scamp
27 BSB
1 King
1 Bliner
3 Porgies
5 Massive KW Grunts
Too many sharks at the 110’ spot.

“In my Opinion” my Mako is one of the driest and best riding boats in her class 26’ They still have the legendary hull. The topside is where I had problems. The consoles and T-Top were not fastened to the deck securely enough, all came loose from the deck. The cavitation plates sat too high on the transom and the motor would get dirty water. Transom had to be lowered.

So when the boat could not get any more band aids she went back to Mako. Mako fixed everything and more and did it in three weeks. It hurt me bad not having the boat and having to internet fish with Skinny for the month of July, but Mako manned up and fixed the boat. Also, they are implementing some of these modifications. I talked to the plant manager for a few hours at Mako. They are serious about building an offshore boat that can stand the test of the seas.

Now, the hero in all of this is Boatline Boats on James Island. Never once did they tell me I was beating the boat up or you are using the boat commercially or whatever excuse not to help me. They stood up in the paint hard, worked Sundays, overtime, overhead and etc. They protected their customer like I have never seen. Having had a few boats in my time I have come across some boats that were lemons and the worst thing is a dealer who always blames the customers first. Boatline is a great service to Chaleston. You guys are great.

I have a friend who has friends @ the T Star. He hooked me up with them. The T Star has showed me much kindness. T Star Captains and Mates you guys are great. The mates work hard and get little rewards.(Think abo

Glad to see you back on the water. So now that Phin has fished with Skinneej and obtained all the top secret numbers and techniques and you have refined your skills on the T-star when is the tourney? I am still pulling for you on this one!!

Thanks Capn. Rick. You taught me a lot about some different ways to do things that I am very grateful for. It was a pleasure helping you this summer. I love to be out there even if it means working like we had to at times.
It will pay off for you soon. You have the passion and the knowledge for it, and that is why it was easy to give you the little help I ever have.

I hate that anchoring was the way it was today, but I’m glad it wasn’t me on the bow!!

Sounds like the charter turned out alright despite the seas though.

I second what you said about the Mako. It is the best riding and driest 26’ boats you could find. The topside stuff is a real shame though. I truly hope that Mako steps up to correct all that stuff to make their boats like they used to.

I also second what you said about Boatline. Absolutely unbelievable service. Lots of stuff to be said for them… bottom line is that if you want a McKee, Mako or C-Dory, they are the place to go. Never thought there’d be a dealer like them in Charleston. They take care of their customers.

It just doesn’t seem the same anymore. Funny how things change. I am always ready to go fishing, fish off, well maybe, does not matter to me. I sure will put all of Skinny’s numbers to good use when I get my commercial license. Should have bought a Yellowfin!

In fairness to Mako, I had the 1901 Bay Boat and it was awesome. It would snatch the ski rope out of your hand when getting up on the wakeboard…Etec…Next in Chuck Town?

No problems with that boat!

the 39 venture is real nice too

I would rather leave a 12 year old boy with Michael Jackson than leave Phin unattended with my GPS with good stuff programmed in. There are certain spots I only take family members to and I like to reset my GPS at the end of the day now. It’s all top secret now with simple PC upload\download.

Also, if porpoise won fishes like they did yesterday, he may whoop us good!

Yeah,
I hope you get it back built like it should have been in the beginning. The offshore market is where boats become men or boys. We shall see. My boat is now at the level it should be. Can you go to the factory and talk to them personally. It helps to see a face and not a quota?

Figured as much. Especially with you and midgiemullet 90’ below… it was a good time for you to have lost all your numbers. We do something similar and might even change the datum or coordinate system on the machine from time to time if people appear to be too interested in their exact location.

Scott, I told you to keep that eBay black sea bass chart thing on the DL man. dang

Luke 8:22-25

does anyone have any Grooper numbers they want to share…I have some C bass #'s I can trade.

Yes. I got these off Skinnee’s screen while he was taking an aquadump the other week.

Congrats on a good day. Glad you were able to get your boat fixed. I love my 26 ft Mako, it is a great boat.

How do you like those 175 Zuk’s? How fast do they get you up to? How about fuel burn? Any info would be appreciated.

With 4 blade props I can touch 40knts at times. I am going back to 3 blades and I will let you know then. I have to get a flow meter to tell you exact consumption, but 175 are 4 cylinder and they burn more efficient than a 6 cylinder obviously.
