90-98ft

Nice and clear, lots of smaller grouper in the area. I think we ended with 1 doormat, 3 grouper, 1 hog and 1 Lobster

Lobster in South Carolina?

yep, biguns too

Cool. Are these the Maine type lobsters or the ones you would catch in the bahamas?

They are primarly spiny lobster, which have no claws. There is a “scallop” lobster which I hear is all meat and delicious. Go to charlestondiving . com and check out some pics. They get huge(2-3 ft)

How is the water clarity and the current - does daylight reach the bottom. I’ve never dived before, and think I don’t have the guts to do it here, but I’d sure like to hear what you experience.

Buddy of mine here did a lot of diving in his younger days, and has some crazy tales to tell - can you share any of your own?

thanks!

My and I dive from the cooper out the the ledge (we RARLEY get to the ledge as our schedules generally conflict w/ some of the bigger bote owners)

in the cooper where most of our shooting is the viz is usually 3’.

The viz gets progressivley better as you get further out but seems to stay around 20-40’. The currents, swell, moon phase seem to dictate the viz. We get the best viz on a 1/3 moon w/ a few days of flat ocean.

The only stories I’ve had was when I used to keep a stringer on my waist I was dropping down on some structure (we freedive breathhold but all my buddies scuba dive) and laying on the bottom, on one particular drop I was laying on some rocks and the fish I had on the stringer somehow worked itself b/w some rocks holding me down…I didint want to leave my fish and loose a weight belt so it took me some time to work it loose before hauling butt to the surface.

another time we were hunting myrtle beach and didn’t realize the anchor had pulled…1/4 mile swim though murky water w/ a stringer of fish was not my idea of fun…that was one LONG 10 minutes.
