We’re visiting Edisto for the second time ever in May. My wife and I love to catch fish. Any fish. We don’t keep any. Just 100% catch and release. I’m not asking for the location of your "secret spot’ or the birthrights of your youngest kid or anything like that. We fish a couple of our own spots. What I’d like to know is Gulp alive shrimp and DOA shrimp worth buying for a salt water novice? What about other best baits for that area? We did pretty good catching sharks and whiting with squid last year, but I’d love to catch a red, flounder or trout. Any tips on rigging and baits would be appreciated. It’s just aggravating to throw money at it and it’s pretty difficult to become pros when time and financial resources only allow 2 or 3 trips to saltwater per year. if you don’t want to broadcast it, just send me a PM. Thanks for any info. By the way, thanks for all the no-seeums repellent tips. We have an arsenal ready for those little bloodsuckers.
Gulp products are great. Try the shrimp or jerk shads (5") in natural colors

Thanks Optiker.
I have had good luck with the white gulp grubs in the dirty water and the new penny shrimp bumped on the bottom.
1 thing I don’t like about the grubs is the tails rip off easy. I bought those extra long hook jigheads to try and get the hook closer to the tail. It helps a little.
I usually keep a bunch of the el~cheapo grubs from haddrells bulk bin and use them when I have a bunch of little guys eating the tails off my gulp grubs. I have had good luck recently with the black/neon green grubs, I don’t know why.
2 mud minnows bumped on the bottom is lethal. They fight eachother and make a tasty spectacle for big cruising reds. I have never really used squid inshore, so I cannot comment. Fiddlers work good too, but they are expensive (unless you chase some down) and go quick.
Btw, the noseeums were out in full force already this weekend. They ran me indoors at dusk on Saturday.

Also try the Zman with procure or you can add your own procure to the unscented. They are a local company and they are super durable
