A simple and free way to check ancestory

I was recently looking to clean up some ancestral information I had, and in doing so ran across http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi. I put in the basic information I was looking for, and it kept taking me deeper and deeper into my roots - FREE!

I just thought I’d share as it was a wealth of info for me that I was shocked to come across!

Hey, good to see you posting Vince. I’m kind of afraid to research my ancestry, not sure what I’ll find.

Your ancestors weren’t anglers. I checked.

You knew that without checking!

Be nice Ricky, I can’t fish but I shoot extremely well.

I assume your search started in the “famous grave search area” right Vinman?

No Andy. Thankfully your legendary self is alive and well!

good to see you posting vinman.

andy, is it possible to put 23 in timeout for a brief time, say a year or so? we could put it up for auction and raise some $ for the site.

I was cleaning up old info to send for that and just kept clicking. I was shocked at how far I got for free. Even found a pic of my great, great, grandparents from the late 1800s.

The site is dependent on contributors, but I was amazed at what I found.

And yes, I can’t wait to see what you neighbors unearth!

Peapod is an enabler; don’t be fooled.

Peapod, are you saying people would pay to bring him back or keep him gone? This is a whole new idea for me. Vinman thanks for the link, I found some cool stuff as well

I didnt use this . I dislike any thing that says free and then they want your credit card number . This is just me others may like it .

I DONT HAVE A BOAT
BUT LOVE TO FISH> HINT

That’s cool, Andy. I found in an hour what my brother spent probably months on before the internet, and with more accuracy.

I think this internet thing is going to catch on

What I did find on that site was mostly accurate, some not. I think its submitted by individuals, whereas ancestry.com is vetted by many people, kind of like wikipedia. For example, that site claimed by mother and father were brother/sister. No, I am not inbred!
