ACC:Clowney would have been ejected

Come on. I can’t believe no one posted this yet.

ACC head of officials on targeting rule: Clowney would have been ejected for Michigan hit:

At the tail end of a lively presentation and debate on new regulations on existing penalties for illegal hits, ACC coordinator of football officials Doug Rhoads raised a few eyebrows.

The final question from assembled media was point-blank: would Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina’s superstar defensive end, been flagged and ? under the new rules ? ejected from the Outback Bowl for his famous helmet-flying hit of Michigan tailback Vincent Smith?

Lol, Coming from that guy? Who cares?

Let’s let the men play football, sheesh.

This ticks me off:
So who are defenseless players? Those have long been defined as players in the act of or just completing a pass, punt or kick; players focusing on catching a pass, punt or kick return; players on the ground at the end of a play; and players clearly out of bounds.

New rules in 2013 add the following three individuals to the list: a player who takes a blind-side block; a ball carrier in the grasp of other tacklers; or a quarterback any time after a change of possession. The last addition could be in response to the SEC championship game, in which following an interception, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was leveled unsuspectingly by Alabama defensive tackle Quinton Dial, when Murray was making no attempt to tackle the returner.

So if the same thing were to happen this year Michigan prob wins that game? That’s BS that was a good hit his face mask hit the running backs facemask and knocked his helmet off . Does this mean Clemson can hand the ball to a 125lb kid and get clowney thrown out for blowing him up??? Or should jc just walk up and help ball carriers fall down so they don’t get hurt lol

Also does a blindside block mean a qb can’t be tackled from his blind side?

Dabo should give you part of his paycheck for developing Clemson’s entire playbook against South Carolina in 2013.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I know we don’t want to see anyone hurt but you have to let them play the game.
Assuming it was a bad hit, does anyone think it was intentional. It happened so fast I bet most people had to watch it several time to really see what happened.
That ACC guy is a puss

It was a clean hit. It is interesting to note that that hit won an ESPY for best hit and I did not hear anyone talk about it being a bad hit. But in the All Cup Cake conference it would mean ejection. (I couldn’t resist).

I’m thinking 2 hand touch above the waist. And 2nd place trophies for the non-winner. Dang, its football.

man I read that headline and was #*!@$ why was it an ACC ref that had to say that. Makes the league look even worse.

it was clean. He did not bend his neck down.

What’s interesting is that there are a fraction of the major head/spine/neck injuries in rugby as compared to CFB and NFL.

Because they don’t wear helmets they do not use their heads to tackle…

so the rules change but you still get to cast judgement on something in the past…hindsight…don’t know why the guy even bothered with making that statement…

You do realize the question was “under the new rules, would Clowney have been ejected?”, right? It was a hypothetical question, not his opinion of the hit at the time. Like the new rules or not, the hit won’t be legal this year, but don’t let the facts get in the way of a good rival bashing.

By definition of the new rule, it was a clean hit.

The only way to make it fair for the other teams in 2013 is to make Clowney play with one arm tied behind his back… Man among boys.

It was the ACC’s officials in the Michigan vs South Carolina bowl game. I think the ACC needs to school the officials on 10 yards being a first down not 9 and 3/4 yards. When the ACC learns what a first down is …then they can progress to so called illegal hits.
